The BIG advantage with this machine is the NON GLOSSY screen. That means that you can be outside and no reflections whatsoever. It is absolutely vital Not to see your self reflected in the screen most of the time.



Glossy screens on the other hand although they have brighter colours and lil more saturated its no use if all you can see is reflection !



This is the one. Its the best ratio for performance and price.



Pros:



1)NON GLOSSY SCREEN



2)8,5 hours of battery (I even manage 9,4 hours with settings in the lowest that is no wi-fi, brightness of the screen in half, sound off, camera off)



Cons: no bluetooth, 0.3 Pixel camera

battery 8.5 hours are really something like 4 or 5. Still you can be economical though (closing wifi, reduce brightness, mute the speakers, switch of the camera) and you might get 7.5-8.5 hours hours.



Screen a plus (non glossy makes all the difference)



Speakers just OK not very loud though for internal sue are just fine (battery I am sure was an issue when they decided for the highest volume. There are solutions for it though and you can increase it (similar to the increase of brightness with eeectl....for the volume there is a way to do it with VLC player (also recommended even an older version 8.16 etc)



Charger gets really hot at times (you cannot touch it)but this seems to be normal and once stop charging goes back to zero temperature.



Runs older programs like Photoshop 7, autocad 2004, SketchUp 7 BUT will easily run newest versions too ! Multitasking possible up to a certain level.



You can add some great applications such as eeectl to increase screen brightness even more and batereee to get an indicator on how much time left at the taskbar.



Many amazing addons for firefox to work specially with this machine such as tiny menu, fission, flashblock, foxtab, hide caption titlebar plus, smart bookmark bar, and additionally you can customize toolbar and make fonts smaller (on the toolbar) and fonts bigger on the screen.



You can also overclock this machine with the Eee Super Hybrid engine.



overall exceeds every expectation

I have been using this solidly for about a month now and it really is a great product. Excellent price, excellent battery life, excellent touchpad (can use the zoom in and out feature with your fingers like on a iphone) excellent keyboard, excellent software. Asus really have just installed the software you need, no pointless apps that waste resources. I particularly like the Hybrid Engine which overclocks the cpu when you have the power cable plugged in.



I strongly recommend going to System Properties > Advacned > Performance Settings > Visual Effects and unticking most of the options in Custom. I have only 3 ticked, Windows XP still looks the same and way smoother.



Like I said you will like this. I give it 5/5

Great little netbook

Bought this for Uni so I could carry my lecture notes, coursework, assignments etc with me wherever I went, and it has been a great help.



Some concerns I had were that it would be too small/awkward to type on and it would be really slow. However the keyboard is perfect for typing essays or making notes and as for the speed it is not bad at all.



Be warned that this thing is a fingerprint magnet due to it's glossy design and any slight touch will leave a mark.



Also the screen is great as it does not reflect like other screens do making it great to work on everywhere.



The battery life is amazing too and I've managed to get 6hrs from it whilst using a word processor and surfing the net through wifi.



This really is a great little machine and if you want to get a netbook, this is the best you can buy.

Someone asked about the RAM and although I have not had chance to have a look I think the 1005ha only has one slot so you would need to get a 2gb stick and for the speed I suggest 800MHz and turning the asus hybrid engine to high or super. This will avoid the bottleneck as with lower speeds but allow the engine to overclock the FSB to 800. Although I do not think it is necessary to upgrade the ram as the netbook is fine for the internet and easily runs any office application - what more do you want from a netbook?

Hi Chris (or anybody), I was wondering which type of memory SoDimm to buy (speed etc) to match the one in the netbook, or is it better buying 2 x 1Gb which may be better than the 1Gb included.. (or even a better 2gb stick?)
