Fantastic !

This sat nav is as the 3.5" version (which is brilliant value for money) but with a far superior/larger screen. TomTom looks and works great on this in widescreen. Comes with a 2GB SD card too which was a surprise bonus, so the full western europe maps fitted on beautifully. Definately worth spending a couple of quid more on this one.

I bought a Navigo 3.5" about 12 months ago and was very pleased.

This F&H unit is even better. Same software but with 4.3" widescreen. Screen is brighter than Navigo and everything seems to work very well with the TT7 software upgrade. Unit is light but has a nice solid feel to it.

The 2GB card shipped with the card means you don't need to buy an extra card to upgrade software.

I paid under fifty quid. Price has gone up since then but I still think it is good value when TTs start at nintey.

Just to repeat what has been written elsewhere, don't bother with the software it comes shipped with. Change to TT7. Please note that thepctailor is now redirected to simplesatnav.com. Register and go to the download area. Download version ".. 7.910.9185WE" and wait - it is over 800MB. It has everything you need including a very detailed set of instructions. If running Vista (as I do) make sure you run Muppetproof as administrator. It should take you less than 30 minutes to do the complete swap.

If I am being critical I think Garmin software is more user friendly than TT but there again you can't install it on this unit. Nonetheless my conclusion is that this is a good satnav at a great price.

WELL WORTH THE MONEY ! ! !
review by: David Wilkinson rating:
customer rating
operating system: Windows XP

PROS: works great, cost (£50), wide screen, ability to customise software, nice looking, slim, well built, 5-day free delivery, kept up-to-date via email, delivery on time.

CONS: the speaker is a bit tinny and the holder is not the best, but don't be put off, they do the job. The time/clock is lost every time you turn the unit off but it resets itself when it gets a GPS signal, but you can use standby mode. Speed cams also require a GPS signal when first installed before the option shows up in settings, but okay after that.

SITES (need to register): simplesatnav.com, ppcwarez.org.

SOFTWARE: Before changing your software, DO A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR DEVICE, SD CARD FILES and REGISTRY (CERegEditor), and read the help files first!

INSTALLED: F&H 4.3" Widescreen Black Menu, iGO8 (igo8.com), speed cams, better quality text-to-speech (TTS) voices, Gurjon iGO8 6.14_beta_03 skin (gurjon.com), day and night skies, car icons.

HELP:

* The OS can handle the ZIP files unzipped! Just put them in the right directories, usually in the root folder.

* It’s quicker to use an SD slot rather than a USB connection.

* If you have a spare MicroSD card you can also use a MicroSD to SD adaptor in the unit.

* GPS Settings used with iGO8: Port=Com7, Baud rate=57600.

You can't go wrong for the money, buy one and keep that speed cam database up-to-date!

TMC - A WASTE OF MONEY!
review by: David Wilkinson operating system: Windows XP

Hi Bryce,

I don't know if the TMC connection works on these units because Ebuyer doesn't sell the TMC leads?!? I presume it would, but I have never found anyone on this site who has said that they have got the TMC working. You could ask the Ebuyer technical department.

As for TMC itself, I don't know if you have ever used TMC but I did on a Navman unit a couple of years ago and it was basically useless! It was never kept up-to-date and would divert me around 'phantom' hold ups that were days old! Also, it was easy to lose the signal because the national coverage is very bad - a complete waste of money.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Regards,

Dave.

For the money you can't beat it. The Turbodog software works well and does everything you need.....but I just had to swap to Tomtom, which is simple to do.

Running Turbodog there is a glitch (or at least there was on mine) whereby if you chose to "sleep" rather than turn off, when you switched back on, the touch screen buttons wouldn't work. Not a problem, I thought, the easiest thing to do would be to turn "off" rather than "sleep" - this results in the unit having to reboot but at least all the functions worked. The only real pain with doing this is the date and time reverts back to 01.01.09.

For the money hard to beat...oh yes and although you don't get a mains charger (only a car charger) Blackberry mains chargers work perfectly!

Fantastic
review by: Scott Wilkinson operating system: Windows Vista

Bought this after reading the reviews for the standard model. Once it came I tried it with the standard software and it was OK but I have now installed TomTom 7 and it works like a dream. I would defo recommend it, as good as a TomTom at a fraction of the price!

It's great sat nav. Battery holds about 2h but you'll receive car charger. It comes with 2GB memory card :-) and nice window holder.

I managed to run TT7 on it without any problems. It's lovely.Just go to http://www.simplesatnav.com and you'll find everything.

I tried hack it to use WinCE and it's possible but not so easy like on older models. I would like to run on it MioPocket. If someone knows how to do it let all us know, please.

QUESTION
review by: Paul Andrews operating system: Not Applicable

Hi.

Firstly thanks for the other reviews people have given. Great help. ;)

However, can someone tell me if this device can be charged from a normal usb cable via a laptop / PC ?

Also can you watch movies, such as AVI, MOV and MPEG etc..? Or is it only MP4 ?

Does this accept the Secure Digital HD Cards or only SD Cards?

Finally, were is everyone getting there 4gig Secure Digital cards from? I can only find 2 gig ones.
