Very Good

I have installed this into a budget build computer and it seems to be working perfectly. It does open a bit violently but there is nothing wrong with that. It runs well and isn't too loud either. Over all a great drive from a great company at a great price.

Cheap & Easy

I installed one of these to replace an older IDE model burner. Installation was dead easy, just plugged it in and that was all there was to it.

The drive is quite short so you should be able to fit it in drive bays where there is not much space infront of PSU, etc.

Remember this is an OEM drive so you do not get any software or a Sata cable. As most motherboards come with a few spare cables this should not be an issue.

It is also reasonably quiet in operation, I didn't hear unsual vibration when reading disks.

Windows (XP) picked it up straight away and it kept the same drive letter as the old IDE drive. Nero 7 also recognised the drive without any hassle so your existing burning software should work OK with this.

No audio connector
review by: Anonymous rating:

Just a word of caution - the drive I received had no audio connector on the back, so if you want to run an audio cable to your motherboard, pay a bit extra and get a different drive.

The drive is a bit noisy when reading discs at high speed, but seems to work OK. It's a basic no frills drive for system builders.

Everest reports it as an Optiarc AD-5240S

No nonsense kit, not a looker

This drive does what it says on the tin and nothing more.

There is no visible Sony branding, just like the photo suggests, and the face plate is dark grey rather than black.

Does the job, noisily

Fitted to a CM 690 case this drive looks good and does a good job. It does what you would expect, but unexpectedly loud. This drive is fine for the odd installation, but would not be suitable for a media machine for those without hearing aids.
