There's nothing wrong with this product. It does the job, nice, clean, comes with two screws. You need two(!) if you want to use one CAT cable for two devices.

Cable economisers
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

It should be noted that 10 and 100 Mb Ethernet only uses two of the four pairs in standard Cat5 cabling. Any faster Ethernet uses all four pairs and cannot use these economisers.

A fudge

This is to allow you to use a single Cat5 to carry two connections, using the otherwise-unused blue and brown wires (Ethernet only uses the orange and green normally). I guess that's a good idea, but I remember when I lived on a 1970's estate and they'd wired up each pair of houses using the 'spare' cables in the phone lines for next door. Then along comes the internet and everyone wants a second phone line, and the only way for BT to do it is to dig the roads up and replace the cables.

Martin Connolly ..... don't waste our time
review by: Paul Smith os: Other

Quite why people like him make comments and then give a product 3 stars is beyond me. Martin, I'm not interested in what BT did when I 'wer a lad... I'd rather know what this product is actually like, does is have a cable tail or is it just a compact unit ? What's the quality like ? Any link problems ? Is it worth the money ? How or what the colour is even. You don't even mention that a buyer needs to remember to buy 2 of these as they only work in pairs !

What a useless comment !

If, like me, re-laying cables under floors and through walls, just to suit Martin, isn't an option and you really wan't to know what these are like, then I'll produce a proper review once I take delivery.

Handy device in certain situations
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

This is a handy device when you have, like a lot of companies, had your building wired a good while back, and now discover that there are not enough network sockets available. It allows you to feed two devices (printer/PC/Telephone) via one floor/wall socket. A good point to remember (as mentioned in another comment) is that you need two - one at the floor socket, another at the patch cabinet. Additionally, the numpty (Scottish word for idiot) who stated that two of the four cable pairs are unused in a network is providing bad advice; they ARE used when there is a duplex network connection (the PC can send AND receive data at the same time), so if you use these by using one of these devices, you are restricting the network performance of the PC. This may not be an issue in low network traffic situations, but could be with higher usage (don't ever use one with a server).

Home use? Only if you have a structured cabling network at home, with floor sockets and patch panel .....

DOH!

What the previous poster was talking about is the well known fact that in 10/100 ethernet networks pins 4,5,7,8 are NOT USED.You seem to think you know what your talking about but i think you should think again. However smarty if you are using POE or gigabit nets then you will need these extra pins, but for standard 10/100 applications it is fine to use say, one cable for wiring two wall sockets together each with two ports.

P.S

Continued from above,LOL.

Full duplex is when the TX and RX channels can both operate at the same time, pins 1+2=TX pins 3+6=RX.This is the basic principal of network switches, whereas older "hubs" could only use TX or RX individually.
