no pain
os:
Windows XPI work at my computer all day and everyday (sad) Using a mouse gives me back and shoulder pains. So tried the ball instead... no pains. It takes a little getting use to for the first day or so but once converted you find it a new way of working and more comfortable. The keys can be set to whatever and so speed your work rate. So if the mouse is giving you pain try this alternative way it could be your answer. The quality of the product is first rate.
Tracker ball or mose?
os:
Windows XPThe ultimate question is tracker ball or Mose? and the answer is depends if you play games then get a mose. If you do a lot of cad or art work or document editing or even internet browsing then get one of these took me two days to get to terms with not moving my hand and poilishing my wrist until it shines. I do a lot of CAD work on solidworks and Proeng wildfire and i found this a very good addition as i am continauly wearing mice out. This however has a five year garentee and i dont expect the trackball to wear out like the frictionless pads on the bottom of an optical mouse.
To sum up its easy to ibnstall but may take a bit of getting used to.
solid, sturdy, great

Windows XPI switched to "trackmen" (they sound like a cartoon when categorised like that) some time ago when my dad bought me an altogether more simple one than this, but for some time I've used this one at work. I'm a programmer/designer so I tend to use mice at speed and need them to perform well. This does. It's not as light-feeling as some of the cheaper ones, but it's the best on the market.
Trackmen take some getting used to if you're used to a conventional mouse, and you may want to change it in the first few days, but give it a week and you won't go back. Moving something around a desk just seems outdated and wasteful to me now. I should also point out that I find these easier to use with the buttons reversed, i.e. left-handed, since I can't imagine why you'd want to use your thumb on the main button.
Nothing really to add re: extra features, it's been said. But I would contest the idea that you can't use these for gaming... I play FPS games and again find them better. In time you can just spin the ball to where you want it, rather than guiding it like you do in the initial stages and with a normal mouse. Take the plunge...
Best mouse in existence
os:
Windows 2000I bought this over a year ago and its still going strong !
Took a bit to get used to it but once you do its fantastic.
You can quickly zoom about and having the programmable keys adds to its ease of use.
I play a lot of online gaming and find this mouse to respond quicker than any other mouse on the market today. A flick of the fingers and you can do a 360 turn ! Add that to the fact its wireless, use a wireless keyboard and you can sit back comfortably and frag away all day.
One word of warning though DO NOT DROP the trackball on something hard it will chip !
If you can afford it buy one you will not regret it !!
the best
os:
Windows XPI have used the excellent MArble FX and Marble Mouse trackball and the so-so MS Trackman Explorer but this is the best. The buttons are such quality - they respond from any angle and their programability is second to none. The whole unit just seems to have a air of quality about it, certainly better than the MS Explorer. Ergonimics are what really make it work for me over the MS unit - it just fits your hand and the buttons are all right there, doing whatever you tell them to do. Pointer accuracy is great - dead smooth and reliable. Never notchy. I've tried them all and this is the trackball to have.
BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD
os:
Windows XPI have had this now for 7 months and don't regret forking out the extra cash!
This is my first time with a trackball and I am converted. It's easy to use, ergonomicaly designed for comfort and with enough bells and whisltes to keep the most active pc user happy!!
Only downside as has been mentioned is the cleaning but for all of the 30 seconds it takes, this trackball is well worth the money.
HAPPY TRACKING ;p
Best thing ever!

Not ApplicableI've been using Logitech trackballs for years, starting with the 2 button model before upgrading to this one.
They take a little getting used to, but once you do, they're far better than mice. Rather than using your whole forearm/wrist to move the pointer, you just use your index and middle finger, clicking with your thumb, so reduces stress on your arm and might reduce the chance of RSI.
Trackballs get a bad rep for gaming, but I couldn't disagree more, they're the best, more accurate and they never get stuck. Occasionally you have to pull the ball out and clean the sensor and the bearings it rests on, but it takes 30 seconds.
They're worth the extra cash for such a high performance and reliable device.
5 Stars because it's a Great Trackball
Simple to use, It's Great!!
Passed the test of time

Windows VistaI Bought this trackball about 2 and a half years ago so was quite supprised to see it by chance on ebuyer and have decided might as well write about having had it for so long. I use my PC for about 3-4 hours a day, doing a lot of typing and web reacearch. The mouse itself looks pretty worn, the silver paint o the left click has worn exposing white underneath, logitech logo has faded, however this wear is purly superficial, yes I have had to take ball out very 3 days, but there is no real wear on the vital parts, the sensors havent worn, the ball is still moving freely and it is still as excellent a mouse as when I bought it. An ordinary mouse with that level of use would be well and truly worn out by this point. yes its expensive but its a solid invertment in a more comftable mouse that will stand the test of time like no ordinary mouse. I wouldent hesitate to buy it again except for the fact that its lasted so well I dont need it.
not that impressed
os:
Windows VistaI bought this mouse over two months ago, I tried it for two weeks but im back to my five pound mouse from tesco.
I was under the impression that you used your index finger to roll the ball but that doesnt work if you want to use the scroll button. In order to scroll you need to use your index finger and roll the ball with your middle finger which bends your wrist and puts strain on your pinky.
Another thing is the actual movement of the ball in the mouse, its very sticky and therefore jerky on the screen, i thought it would take some using to 'bed in' as to say but still no better.
One more bad point is the four feet on the underside are not all level which makes the mouse wobble, the whole point of buyng this type of mouse is so you dont need to move it but it tends to move anyway.
The good point is the forward and back buttons which you use your thumb to click are really good for surfing as you dont need to click on the back button on your browser screen or hit backspace on the keyboard.
I wouldn't recommend this mouse and am quite disapointed as most other reviews say otherwise.
I would have to give it two stars.
