A good product overall, seems OK.

Now for the details.
It's a 12" tube, with a round tube surrounding the
CCFL tube, and square bits at the ends for easy
fixing.
This has two 7" wires which plug into the electronics box (it can drive two tubes at about the same brightness) and is a somewhat odd turquise colour about 1"*1"*2".
At the other end is a small plug that plugs into a splitter, allowing around 18" between the switch and the electronics box.
Uses around 0.4A at 12V.
At lower voltages (6-8V or so) it starts glowing at one end and spreads to the other end so that it
might be used as a Vu-meter type thing with the appropriate controls (speculation, it may not be reliable).

Opening the electronics box, it appears to be a resonant boost converter with just a couple of transistors, and a biggish transformer, with an inductor to smooth the current.
Tested for a while at 15.8V instead of 12, and it got a bit warm, but worked fine.
I'd guess reliability should be OK, nothing got
too hot even at 30% overvoltage.

So much more than a case mod!

I bought some of these following a recommendation from a friend who is using them for under-cupboard lighting in his kitchen. They give a good-quality bright white light, easily good enough to read by, and stay cool in use.

What more could you want?

This is a really good product at a really good price, i have seen these products sold for about £10 - £15. It looks really good, i have placed mine inside my case and can be seen through the side window. You even get velcro patches to stick it down with. Overall great product at an amazing price.

These are seriously cheap. Someone must be making a loss on thse!

I bought 4 of these white ones. 1. I have put behind my LCD monitor to help counteract the brightness of the screen when I have the lights off another is illuminating my keyboard shelf and the other two I have in my car one as a boot light and the other as an engine bay light.

This just shows how cheap and versitile these lights are.

A good Buy.

I use one of these in my boot, and have swapped the switch so when the boot is opened, the light comes on.
Its brilliant, wonderful powerful white light.
I will ask one thing tho, why do they not come in dual tubes?

Nice & Bright

This is the first time I ever used a Cathode Tube, nice and easy to install. Loads of wires however but this didn't bother me, the switches are handy (so you can hang the switch out of a empty metal plate at the back or fix a hole yourself). I got two of these, one for the bottom of the case and one where the motherboard lay's. They both brighten up my case quite a lot and I am happy with it, I am espesially pleased with the switches so I can turn them off at night.

PLEASE ebuyer, get the 4" version of this!!!
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

These are brilliant, do exactly what they say on the tin, cheap as chips, and dozens of uses.

BUT

PLEASE ebuyer, get the 4" version as well! These would be ideal for use in cars - 4" would be just the right size to fit into most headlight and sidelight units and would make a great upgrade to match a car's HID headlights. Could also be used as footwell lights, door 'puddle' lights, interior light upgrades, etc.
