Excellent, If you have analog video camera & USB2, so simple yet perfect results.Don't even need massive HDD as analog converted to MPEG2.

Unit works exactly as described. Very good quality capture at DVD resolution with no dropped frames directly into MPEG format. Simple to use. Connectors fitted are sockets, you will need an S-Video plug to plug cable to connect up to your camera. Easily available from any video shop.

Not As Good As IT Could Be

After figuring out the NTSC black and white screen setting, capturing from my Sony vid camera with a SVHS lead at anything below DVD isn't so good. Finally went for an AVI format giving a huge file and squeezing down with DrDivx. Sound however gets out of sync with the picture. Overall disapponted as promised so much. Atlon 2.4, 756 RAM. May invest in a later version of Ulead for better capture abilities?

Black and White problem - fixed !
review by: Rob Carmichael os: Windows XP

If you have the same problem that i did in that it was capturing in black and white; here is the fix.
Options > Capture properties > Properties > Image > PAL > OK.

Job done, hope that helps someone else.

Three star rating imho. Good product but this same problem seems to effect alot of people and there is nothing in the help file or website about it.

use a cable
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

The female connectors on camcorders and other devices need a s-video cable to attatch to this device. Straightforward professional connection, not a flying lead - becasue the product is USB it looks like that.

Buy a cable and it will work!

Belkin F5U228 DVD video creator
review by: Arthur Duke os: Not Applicable

This unit has a "Female Gender" "S" Video connector my Sony video camera and all of the Cameras in my local Dixons also have a "Female Gender" Connector. To date I have not located a Gender Changer for this. Can Mr Hogg or anyone advise.

Whenever I try to install this device it just crashes (blue screen) my system. I'm using a Via USB2 PCI Card and have tried allsorts of updates to motherboard and drivers. Still no joy. Any one had any similar issues?

Help!
review by: Jason Cooper os: Windows XP

Can anyone who has this item working ok please tell me their system specs. and also check how much power this unit draws from their USB port?

I am having problems getting it to work on my Athlon 1.4 system and am not sure if I have a faulty item or a system incompatibility. It installs no problems when plugged into my Belkin USB 2.0 card, but I cannot capture video for more than a few seconds without it blue screening(driver_irql_not_less_or_equal) or just rebooting. I've also noticed it draws nearly 500mA from the usb port when idle, however the manual says it should only be drawing 240mA?
I've emailed Belkin tech support but not heard anything yet a week later.

\Next Installment
review by: Peter Howell os: Windows XP

Thanks to Jason. In fact I had aleady sussed out the PAL v. NTSC problem, but like Jason capturing is now fine but end product is disappointing. Those of you who have achieved good recordings - did you use DVD? SVCD and VCD seem weak. OK I know resolution is a factor. Great potential but I'm tempted to return to my old Amiga 500+ with SCALA - remember that??
