Product Description

The D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-G520 PCI Adapter is a wireless PCI adapter featuring the very latest in advanced wireless silicon chip technology to deliver incredibly fast data transfer in the 2.4 GHz frequency. The DWL-G520 also works with 802.11b standard wireless devices and when used with other D-Link Air Plus Xtreme G products delivers throughput speeds capable of handling heavy data payloads including real-time MPEG video streaming.

The D-Link Air Plus DWL-G520 also includes a configuration utility to discover available wireless networks and create and save detailed connectivity profiles for those networks most often accessed. Like all D-Link wireless adapters, the DWL-G520 can be used in ad-hoc mode to connect directly with other 2.4 GHz wireless computers for peer-to-peer file sharing or in infrastructure mode to connect with a wireless access point or router for access to the Internet in your office or home network.

Dlink Wireless Pci Adapter - 54mbit Ieee 802.11g

operating system:Windows XP

I bought this card to complement a D-link Di-624+ 54mbps 802.11g Router. Initially the card was simple to set up, I followed all the instruction and much to my surprise the internet worked first time. On the downside however it became apparent that the DLINK configuration utlility software was not functioning properly, after looking on the net I discovered that a conflict exists with the generic XP wireless drivers. To overcome you need to download updated drives, deleat DLink software and old drivers, switch off computer, remove card, switch back on, reload software, switch off, put card back in, switch back on and load new drivers (this link gives instruction) http://thinks.com/cgi-bin/aws/aws.pl/item-B00007LTBA/best.htm. After this you then need to disble the xp wireless configuration software. Then everything ran fine. See jc123 full summary of how to do this at the bottom of page: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,8952135~mode=flat~start=0

I would like to say I am surprised that it should take some effort to get the card working, but ultimately I am not.At least there is good advice available easily on the net to assist.

After all this I have marked that product on how well it actually works. Reception is excellent with data flowing at around 36mbs.

If you read and follow the Installation manual on the enclosed CD, configure you router and this card to detect each other then there will be joy in your household . It works .Main Pc ground floor at the back of the house and no 1 sons PC 1st floor at the front of the house. While i type this he is downloading and installing WinXP updates 51Mb of them .Great. I am using this in conjunction with Netgear Pci adapter FA311 and Netgear 54mps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router.

I bought this card to replace my old D-link PCI wireless adpater! my old card only ran at 11mbps and had a terrible signal strenght.

The new card is much better signal and faster! When I first installed this card, my PC kept crashing! So I formated my PC and installed windows again and it works GREAT!

Excellent Performance on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP

I have used this card in a computer in my shed all the way at the bottom of my garden with my access point under the stairs at the front of the house. With my old Belkin USB adapter it was just about managing to do 1mbps but it kept continously dropping out and would read a signal strength of barely above 0%. I replaced the Belkin with this DLink card and now I have a continous 34mbps and almost full signal strength ! - I was amazed !

Not only is the card really well built but the antenna is on a proper connector so you can unscrew it and replace it with an external one if you want... although I didnt need to.

I've had alot of bad WiFi adapters in my past and quite a lot of experience with different brands since I also setup WiFi at my work. I can honestly say this is the best adapter I have ever used.

Excellent 54g card

Wasn't sure if this was truly 54g compliant, but it is. Network speeds aren't actually 54mbps but that's the same for all cards. Very easy to install, great software and connected straight away to my 3Com 54g access point (which is also very good).

If I can get it sorted on Linux it'll be perfect.

I put this card into my kiddies XP PC next floor down with three brick walls and 30 metres to get through to my DSL router/hub. And it works great with 75%-95% signal strength! Make sure the detachable aerial is firmly screwed in. Now I do not have to put up with my girls "Instant Messaging" their friends on my computer, when I am trying to get my eMail. Bliss!

Lagging probs
review by:Anonymousoperating system:Not Applicable

Having had yet another attempt to get the card functioning properly without lagging and dropped connection i decided to start again by uninstalling everything and removing the card from the slot. I installed the drivers first as instructions tell you then this time i dropped the card a slot lower, set it up to the instructions and BINGO !.Everything works fine TX & TM are 100%. So whether it was a conflict on an IRQ i dont know ?
