Neat KVM
os:
Windows XPWorks a treat easy switching using the scroll lock key and number keys 1 & 2
ps2 keyboard
usb mouse with ps2 adapter
Pc / XBox 360 switching
os:
Windows XPBought this switch to alternate between an XBox 360 & a pc using one screen. Needed a Ps2 to USB converter as well - but the kit works and does the job. Well pleased.
KVM
os:
LinuxNice neat little box, easy to switch over to the other PC - doesn't need an external power supply which is a plus as I don't have any wall sockets spare.
Great piece of kit
os:
Windows XPI got a spare computer for running old 98/DOS-games on and thought I would be best off with another monitor but after I saw this I changed my mind. It is really easy to use and setup, it takes up barely any room at all, but best of all, it costs about 1/5th of the price of a monitor. I have not had a single problem with it either.
If you are using 2 computers at once, this is for you!
Dlink 2 Port KVM Switch
os:
Windows XPI've got my switch hooked up to an LG Flatron L1710M 17 inch LCD monitor, Advent aluminium Kboard USB (with USB to PS2 adapter) and Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB (with USB to PS2 adapter). No software was neccessary at all. Worked right out of the box.
The mouse skipped a lot, jumping from point to point, and acting as though someone clicked the right button occasionaly. I disconnected the mouse and put a cheap ps2 one in its place. All seems fine at the moment.
The keyboard has given me no problems as yet.
My LCD monitor has lost some of its sharpness and seems to be slightly ghosted but is bearable. I might get used to it eventually.
Over all, it's not bad and is definitely worth the £15.03 I spent on it. It has a button on the front so I can switch between PC's very easily but a keyboard key combination will also switch between the 2 PC's. It beeps on startup and each time you switch between the two PC's, which startled me the first few times, thinking 'did it bust?', but it is just to let you know that the switch is switching.
The two PC outlets are marked PC1 and PC2. I have my main PC on PC1 and it boots up fine without PC2 turned on. PC2 is used for PC's that I am working on. This device saves me from walking to and fro between the two PC's.
I would have given it more stars but the skipping mouse cursor and monitor ghosting issues are a bit of a pain in the rear. Irrespective of the hiccups, for this price and including supplied cables, it is well worth it.
Does the job...
I bought one of these some time ago...although it works a treat swapping between pcs, i did get a regular problem of the mouse locking on a pc as i switched to it, requiring a reboot of the driver, or a restart.
This was using a usb mouse with a ps2 converter, i think that may have been the problem.
But this is great value for money at only £15.
PC & XBOX360
Bought one of these as well. However it won't display the output from the XBOX360 (when I tried to switch to it) but will display the output from my PC (although Vista crashed). Connected it to my 360 via the VGA port on my cooler king.
