Fantastic UPS!

Up and running in under 5 minutes. After a power cut the other week I decided to buy one of these devices and I have not been disappointed.

There are 4 outlets all with surge protection and 3 with battery back-up. There is surge protection for telephone as well as network connections with additional leads provided.

Connection to the PC is via serial or USB lead supplied and the shutdown software is easy to use. I would thoroughly recommend it - especially at the price.

After suffering a power cut recently - considered the impact of a fatal crash due to a power cut.
What a product - extremely easy to set up with great software - graphical meters of power in/out, battery charge %, output load. Easy setup up of alarms and events.
The day it arived I was set up and running of the UPS within 5 minutes (after initially charging for 6 hours as instructed).
Without exageration, that night another power cut while I was using my PC - as soon as the power was cut, received an audio and verbal warning of power cut. 5 minutes later (default setting that can be changed) my PC shutdown automatically. 2 minutes later (default) the UPS automatically shut down.
Fantasic product - great price, great software and small.

Belkin UPS 1200VA with USB & Serial Interface

After we had two three second powercuts last week it made me think that the hard drive could be damaged so decided to get a UPS. After comparing several different models went for this one as it had USB support as my serial port on the PC is already in use. Went for the 1200VA model as price difference between this one and the 1000VA is minimal.

Other reasons for going for this one was that it has 3 pin plugs on the rear of the device as opposed to just the kettle lead type plugs found on some of the cheaper models.

Arrived on the day stated on the invoice and charged unit for 24 hours, switched everything on and then plugged in the USB lead and Windows XP configured the rest for me. Usually a bit apprehsive about installing new hardware but no problems at all. The only thing you need to adjust is the power settings on the control panel so that the machine shuts down automatically when the UPS is running low on power.

Haven't installed the BullDog software that comes with it and reading the manual it doesn't appear worth it if you are a home user with only one machine as the BullDog software tends to lean towards networked machines or if you want to do fancy things with the UPS like perform an automatic self test every month or so.

Well recommended piece of kit and lets face it for just over £100 it's good insurance against lots of repairs should you get a surge or a blackout.

This product is excellent.

I can run a P4HT Northwood+9800Pro(!!)+2xU320 HD+2xSATA HD,etc. for 15 minutes on battery power with this little baby!! All at around 40% load when the P4 is maxed out... Maybe 50% total load when the VPU is busy. Not bad at all.

The software _IS_ useful - for a single host - as it allows you to schedule deep battery tests to occur every 2-4 weeks. YOU MUST DO THIS!! Otherwise your battery won't last long and won't be there when you need it!! You wouldn't even know the test is happening as there is no interruption to the PCs operation...

I haven't tried the Linux driver yet. Will try to use the over the network shutdown for this :-)

I was looking for a UPS to support a few servers mixed between Linux (fedora core 3), Win3K and Win2K. I wanted to be able to shut these down in a particular order on power failure. I didn't want to buy additional IEC cables. This UPS is just perfect :) -

It allows easy installation supporting UK standard plugs (4 off, 3 with battery backup and one with surge protection). USB and Serial connectivity. Plus the bulldog UPS software allows a single master and multiple network slaves (remember to put you hub on the ups too :) ). Perfect fit.

Bought one of the and It arrived very quickley, took about 2-3mind to install all the software and to plug everything in!

I now have surge protection for my plugs and phone line, and a battery backup that lasts for about 20 mins.

I have a shuttle SN45Gv3 and a 17" TFT running on the battery backup, and my speakers plugged into the non battery backup socket. it's running on about 30% loadage!!

Great buy and well worth it!!

Good, but no 64 bit drivers as yet

This is a powerful unit which I've loaded with a 500 watt server running 4x hard drives and dual Opterons and it's only at 35% capacity. I could easily add another server to the load plus an LCD monitor.

There are standard UK sockets on the back of the UPS which I didn't expect. Normally (or at least with APC models) they have kettle sockets but this made a nice change as anything with a standard UK plug can attached to the 3 backed up power sockets and 1 surge protected socket.

I was very disapointed with a Ethernet/network surge protection of the UPS because it downgraded by 1Gb connection to 100Mbit. Obviously I ended up not using this facility but I bought it for the capacity, brand name and price rather than the extra features.

Also annoyed that there are no 64 bit drivers for Windows XP or Server 2003 which means you can't connect it up using the USB cable. Instead the serial connector works okay and the supplied 32 bit software runs well on 64 bit operating systems. I haven't had a power cut yet so can't vouch for sustainability but it has passed the short and deep battery tests that the software lets you do manually or regularly using a nice scheduling feature. I would happily buy another one of these if I needed to.

update on my last review, did a deep battery test and it powered my pc for about 30 mins!

might plug a tft in to it as well!

correction on my last one, there is only TWO sockets in total for phone and network, so you can either protect your phone OR network

Fantastic UPS.

I currently have 2 PCs, 1 server, 1 LCD monitor 2 20W halogen lamps (I like to see in a power failure) and 2 network switches on this UPS and it's at 45% load. Pretty impressive. Having had problems with UPSs and linux before I was a bit dubious when bought this one, but I had absolutely no problems getting the linux server talking to the WinXP PC (to which the UPS is connected). To install on linux requires software that is not on the supplied CD, but can be found within seconds on the 'net.

As always with ebuyer they've delivered on time - in fact on all my purchases with ebuyer they've always had the product at my door at least 1 day early and often several.
