impresive sata drive
os:
Windows XPi was very pleased with the performance from this drive in benchmarking it seems to be out performing my ide raid stripe setup
pc mark score on xp 3200+ 512 crucial ram on a dfi board is
cpu 6900 +
mem 6700 +
hdd 1500 + !
also very easy to setup what with no jumpers to confuse stupid people
Excellent value SATA drive
os:
Windows XPBought this drive allong with a Sil 3112A PCI controller, SiSoft reports 47MBps which is fast. Might link another one to the card for a RAID array. The drive is silent & fast. Check out Steve Gibson's site at GRC.com for accurate information on hard drives and reliability. Most of my customers hard drive crashes are mistaken for Windoze XP registry hive corruption.
If you're thinking of installing Linux on one of these, check out install instructions on support forums for your distro as even a Windows install requires SCSI/RAID drivers to be loaded from floppy before the drive is recognised.
WDC QUALITY !
I have over the past year used about 80/90 of these drives without any problems whatsoever until recentley over the last few weeks i have had 3 just stop working without warning and in a very short time period of operation! I.E. the last one went down in under 12 hours of use.
i would seem that WDC might be having a problem in their manufacturing process or may have switched to using cheaper/inferior materials in their production process, i hope this is not the case and that these 3 dead drives are just bad luck as i prefer to use WDC drives above all others apart from IBM deskstars which are now Hitachi.
i will give WDC 5 out of 5 despite my recent drive failures as they are great drives to use for the price.
Western Digital WD800JD - Fast and very quiet
os:
Windows XPI have had an IBM/Hitatchi die on me, the Seagate drives seemed loud, so I returned to WD. This drive is quick and amzingly quiet. As a SATA drive you will need a SATA cable(and obviously a SATA controller on the motherboard), but for power you can use EITHER the standard Molex hard drive connector or a SATA Power connector. As it's OEM no cables are included.
Nice drive
os:
Windows XPThis drive simply purrs along. Very quiet and keeps to about 40C according to my temp monitoring s/w. Please note that this is a SATA II drive although you can short a jumper on the drive to make it SATA 150 compliant should you have an older m/board which can't handle SATA II standards. In short - a bargain.
fast, low cost
os:
Windows XPfor the price this is a very fast drive, no problems at all. If you are building a cheep pc add this drive, it will be much faster.
Fast, quiet, reliable
os:
Windows XPWell happy with this drive.
Super fast, wonder why I put up with Maxtor IDE HD's, which are noiser, slower and so unreliable.
Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB SATA150 7200rpm 8mb
Sweet little HDD ;) & at a groovy price
Fast-Friendly-Reliable
os:
Windows XPGreat Drive an absolute breeze to install.....instlled into a system with an Asus A8N-VM Motherboard, Windows XP required no additional drivers to get it going at all (unless you use RAID) drive has both MOLEX and SATA power connectors on it and comes with a molex to sata converter if needed.
Drive arrived THREE DAYS ahead of schedule which was fantastic.....nice work ebuyer!
Top Quality Drive
os:
Windows XPI bought this drive in November 2004 as a replacement for a second failed Deskstar in less than 12 months. I am pleased to say that it is still going strong and has been totally faultless.
I am going to purchase another as a slave drive because I am fed up of removing and reinstalling games as my drive is full. I would recommend this silent quality drive to anyone.
