Very Good

This is a very good product for the price, I can not fault it. It worked without the supplied drivers in Windows XP for me, so I cant comment on the quality of them. Excellent value for the price considering the alternatives. Comes with driver disk only, no cables supplied, all ports external.

The item came with 4 ext USB, 2 ext 6-pin Firewire, 1 int USB and 1 int 6-pin Firewire. VIA Chipset was recognised by XP-SP1 and installed without using the CD which had the latest VIA drivers.

Very pleased with the item and no problems whatsoever.

I decided to chance it and buy it anyway, and I'm pleased to say that the card does work with an Apple iPod.

Trouble free install, Not quite :(
review by: Raj Kalia operating system: Windows XP

In my previous post I mentioned how easily the device was detected.

However when I tried to use it properly it was dropping dozens of video frames after 1 minute or so. So I spent 4 hours swapping my hard drives around (primary/secondry), popping in a 7200 drive, defraging, removing devices ect.

But still it dropped frames. With Videostudio complaining the cable had been unplugged/device not found. I then found out that the free 1394 cable it came with was faulty.

I popped in another, and it works a treat.

Hope this helps someone save their weekend.

So its still yet another bargin from E-buyer.

Bought this in Aug 2004. Got it working with few problems on Linux 2.6.8. lspci says:

0000:00:0b.0 USB Controller: ALi Corporation USB 1.1 Controller (rev 03)
0000:00:0b.1 USB Controller: ALi Corporation USB 1.1 Controller (rev 03)
0000:00:0b.2 USB Controller: ALi Corporation USB 1.1 Controller (rev 03)
0000:00:0b.3 USB Controller: ALi Corporation USB 2.0 Controller (rev 01)
0000:00:0b.4 FireWire (IEEE 1394): ALi Corporation M5253 P1394 OHCI 1.1 Controller

To talk to USB and FireWire hard drives, I have the following modules loaded:
usbcore, usb-storage, uhci_hcd, ieee1394, ohci1394, raw1394

If I remember rightly it's an ALi M5271 chip on it.

Needs VIA driver for OSX
review by: Duncan Gordon rating:

operating system: Mac OSX

I had taken one of these out of my spare pc to put into a recently acquired G4 powermac. The OS recognised that something was there, but wasn't quite sure what!

Downloading the driver from the VIA areana forum website solved the problem immediately. Excellent value and MUCH cheaper than propriatory apple add ons.

Get the driver from:

Ebuyer USB2.0 High Speed Combo USB2.0 Firewire PCI Card with 3xUSB Ports and 2xports IEEE 1394

operating system: Windows 98

The one delivered was a Safecom, with Via chips VT6212L & VT6306, it also came with a F/wire cable, one end fits a normal size F/socket the other end is smaller, no idea what it fits, also a drivers CD, and a slim ins manual. The card has 4 USB 2.0 sockets and 2 F/wire sockets as well as 1 of each Internal. On Win 98SE installation was a doddle, I have a ECS K7S5a M/b. I also bought a Media Port drive bay (Q/f 45603)to go with this and that is a helluva bargain at under a fiver! I wanted to use this with a USB/F/wire drive caddy to transfer large files between pc's. I've used it with both USB and F/wire and have had no probs , so far:0)
The card has case headers for both USB & F/wire AS WELL AS a power in socket for Powered USB use, if ONLY it had come with a lead connect that instead of a f/wire cable I have no use for. I'm well satisfied, no probs, V/fast transfer speeds and a cheap price, wot more can one ask for, 6 numbers for the mid-week Lottery praps ? , thanks Ebuyer :0))

To answer the question - No cables with this card.

Cheap, cheerful - does what it needs to do with no fuss.

Uses the ALI chipset.

Drivers
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows 2000

I agree with Gareth, the drivers supplied were useless. Several Blue screens once other peripherals were connected to it.I downloaded the one suggested and it worked a treat!!
I owe you one mate!!
