Fantastic!
os:
Windows XPWe bought an Ebuyer Value Safecom USB wireless adapter last week that wouldn't work at all, in any room, on any setting, even with new drivers, on a brand new PC. Shameful, even for the paltry sum of £12 that it cost. This was far more expensive, but worth every penny - easy installation, connected to our wireless network instantly, faultless performance. You get what you pay for!
Successful use of these cards under Linux
os:
Not Applicablehi, the debian package you need is bcm43xx-fwcutter,
and the bcm43xx module for these suprise surprise
broadcom 4306 chipset cards is available as part
of the 2.6.18 kernel, now.
so it's actually now probably the easiest of the
entire modern pci wireless cards to install under
linux, thanks to broadcom's support!
works perfectly with the native driver.
WMP54G vs. WMP54GS
os:
Windows XPI own both a WMP54G and a WMP54GS after buying the WMP54G by mistake. I can compare the two and say the reception is definately better on the WMP54GS, we've tried both cards in the same PC in different parts of my bedroom, and there is a definate difference that is noticeable. Getting 38% and 23% reception makes all the difference as to whether you can connect to an access point and go online or not. I hope this helps anyone considering buying either, the 7 extra pounds is worth paying for, if you want a more reliable network.
Good card
os:
Windows XPI bought this card to replace a Netgear WG311T for my sons computer because he was getting blue screen errors. His computer uses an AMD cpu with an Asus motherboard using the Via chipset, and there is an issue with Netgear adaptors and this system.
Disabled old card and removed it, installed software- it prompts you when to shut down and install the card- installed new card, and after a few minutes detected my wireless network automatically. You just select your network and click connect.
One thing I noticed was that this card had a much bigger antenna than the Netgear. Signal was good, even though my wireless access point (Netgear WPN802) is downstairs and in a front room and my sons room is upstairs at the back.
I'd recommend this card if you are having problems as stated above.
Quite simply, excellent...
I've had my Dimension 8400 for 3 1/2 years. P4 HT 3.2, Intel 925x, upgraded to 3GB RAM and HIS ATI X1650XT after 3 years. Previously had WMP54G but 4Meg became 1 when moved so wireless card replaced with SpeedBooster model means Internet is 35% faster...and card is way smaller...doesn't sound like a great improvement but also upgraded usb modem with Linksys Ethernet Adsl2+ rj45 modem...and on a network with a WRT54GS Router, 1Meg feels like 2!
Easy to install, though Linksys CD software was initially keeping connection in a constant state of work/not work so changed to Windows setup. Other than that, great signal even at distance from router, constant connection, Linksys products are built to a superb standard and just work, even though my PC has been knackered relentlessly over the years, the results for my internet, downloading and online games speed has been more than excellent considering our broadband speed.
Perfect purchase for Wireless-G internet and network solution, you cannot go wrong with this wireless card...HIGHLY recommended.
Ultimate 64
Does anyone knows if this is compatible with Windows vista 64
as i heard vista has problems with some drivers
Wanted to leave a review - although I had the WMP54G, no speedbooster
os:
LinuxI like leaving information for linux users to help build the open source community up.
I'm running Ubuntu Breezy (5.10). Installed the card, ran the ndiswrapper driver (from the gnome menu - no command lines needed), copied the inf files from my windoz partition (incidently, this works fine in windoz too), opened up the networking widget (again no command line) - typed in my wep key - and away it went.
Some people report problems with radio state, and modprobe for the first time you install, but I didn't have such problems (well they say problems, but it was 1 line in a config file and a reboot).
The only thing I had to do, was change my default route, to stop it trying to use the hardwired network card.
It's not getting 5 stars, because linksys should make thier drivers open source.
Strong signal
Great signal strength and steady IO. Easy installation fairly good drivers and management utility under winXP. Still to try it under Linux.
Performance is impressive considering that I use this card on a ws positioned one floor above the router. The positioning is not ideal as the antenna gets the signal from behind the computer, my desk, myself sitting at the desk and a wall.
Speedbooster does not work with my belkin (G+) router.
Four stars just for the price.
Works with Ubuntu
os:
LinuxI just got this card. It works with Ubuntu 7.10 out of the cd. No copying of drivers no extra command line setup just installed and works out the box. Also works with WPA encryption with no additional config required.
The reception is not as strong as I expected though. 55% 2 meters away from router...
Although there are 3 machines running in the room. Perhaps a cause of some signal disturbance ;). Perhaps better drivers could help as well.
Would have got 5 if not for signal strength.

Does this product work with MS Vista Ultimate 64-bit?
