Neat looking & does the job!
os:
Not ApplicableWasnt too certain about the appearance from the photo, but not disapointed-very adequate quality & appearance-especially for price. Would look as much at home in the living room as in the office. Connections come neatly out of the back & no fan, so totally silent. Front panel looks a bit like the floor inicator panel in a lift-numbers 1 to 5 light in orange or Green for connection speed & flicker for activity. Worked fine straight out of the box-married up with netgear GA311 nics.
Excellent Speed, No Problems
os:
Windows XPJust installed the switch. Plugged in the power, plugged in the CAT5 cables and it works straight away. Getting around 40% Network Utilization from my gigabit lan which is integrated into the motherboard. Thats a sustained transfer rate of 50 Megabytes per second (400Mbps). I think if anything, it is my hard drive which is the slowest part of the loop now. Anyway, excellent piece of kit and loots nice and shiny.
Netgear Gigabit Switch
os:
Windows XPI can only agree with Tom. Works perfectly straight out of the box. Haven't done any performance tests yet but coupled with a Linksys 32 bit NIC and a Linksys 64 bit NIC on my server it is much much quicker than my old 100Mb setup.
Much the same quality as the Linksys Gigabit switch but the Netgear is silent.
Only niggle, it is much smaller and a slightly differant design to my Netgear DG834 router that it sits on top of but still worth five stars.
What more could you want for 40 quid.
Excellent and cheap!

Not ApplicableAs the others reviewers say - works well and is incredibly cheap.
(Strangely it is cheaper to buy two 5 port switches that one 8 port one.)
Great bit of kit...
os:
Windows XPI've been looking around for a cheap gigabit switch for home for ages. This one was the right price and works great. It even managed to run gigabit to my shed in the back garden and thats a fair old distance.
Brilliant value

Windows XPThis 1Gb switch looks great and can be placed horizontally or vertically using supplied stand. In practice I can easily get about 22mb/sec sustained transfer speeds when copying between 2 PCs. The price of this 5 port unit is amazing. I bought it when it was £16.48+VAT in Nov-05 but it seems to have gone up since then. Still great value and good performance. Looks lovely too with its chrome facia. I bought 2 of these to link together as I needed more ports. Surprised at how simple it was to chain them together with my ADSL router as well. Wonderful!
Netgear GS605 5-Port Gigabit Platinum Switch
os:
Windows XPExcellent, This Complimented my DG834G "modem-router" very well, And now I have gigabyte lan on all 3 pc's. I used the "Dynamode 10/100/1000 Mbps 32 Bit - Gigabit PCI Network Adapters. Quick find code,38027..... as they are highly recommended for linux and windows xp. A couple of new cat 6 cables, quickfind code 106439.... or you could use cat 5e cable at the minimum, Everything is stable and fast, all set up in less than an hour without any need for changing any settings, plug and play is flawless with this setup. Happy, me, Oh yes.. networks speed 1.0Gbps connected on all 3 pcs, What do you think ;-)
As good as it gets (wired).
os:
Windows XPThis switch was so easy to set up, plugged network wires in switched on and re-ran home network as i was using a belkin wireless router which kept on losing connection. Instant access (no connection drops) and noticably faster than router. Well pleased.
great device, fast, reliable and cheap
os:
Windows XPI have 5 of these switchs. They are very good. Fast, silent, stylish and cheap.
The only thing that it is missing is mounting holes at the back of the switch, to hang it on the wall or ceiling.
What networking cards to suit?
From the revies I'm very interested in getting one of these, but would like to know what are good Gigabit PCI cards to buy that would match this unit for performance (no bottlenecks)?
