Very Meaty Bass
operating system:
Windows VistaAs expected by the size of the subwoofer (10 inch) which is the biggest so far for pc speakers. I got my first speaker from ebuyer (in here) which was faulty but got the replacement a week later and the system is working great till this day (about 2 weeks from now). You hear people saying the sound that coming out from these speakers are very loud and guess what? They are correct considering its maximum SPL is 115dB within a metre measurement from the souce is an earache (or maybe bleed your ear till you're deaf).
My only tips for you is to get a surge protector and a pack of 2 Amps 250volts (time delayed) or (slo blow) or (time lag) fuses from Maplin because you'll need it. Logitech didn't supply any extra fuses as this is a common problem to most of the speakers users out there.
I've researched the net (including LOGITECH's website for any extra "hidden" features that it has. (although it's firmware dependent):
2nd Skin: Put the control centre in Standby (eg, subwoofer power switch on, but control centre in standby) then press and hold the following buttons for about 6 seconds: Input, Effect, Settings, and Mute buttons simultaneously. The display should now read "2nd Skin On". Your power button will now be (indigo) or (violet) from the default "red" and the sound bars will also change, although you can change it back to default by doing the same procedure.
Boost Mode: Turn the volume knob up as high as possible, then keep turning. It will now switch to boost mode and get even louder. (Unless you want to kill yourself, I don't suggest this.) Boost up to +11
Up to Boost 22: Hold down the Mute button and turn the volume up, this can be combined with Boost Mode for some serious damage. (Again, Unless you want to kill yourself, I don't suggest this.)
Diagnostic Mode: Put the device into standby, as above, then press and hold Input and Effect buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. The control centre will now show more information about the digital feed it gets from the Coax or Toslink connection for 5 secs (only for digital connections not the analogue ones).
Firmware Version: Use this feature to view your firmware version. (I have v2.1.0 BTW) While on standby mode again, press and hold the following buttons, Input, Effect, and the Settings button for about 2 seconds then press the power button, remove your fingers off all the 4 buttons (including power button), then press the power button again. and Voila!
Enjoy your Logitech z-5500 speaker! :) :O :)
Z-5500 Digitals
Argueably the BEST 5.1 Sound System
The Subwoofer is MASSIVE, delivering 188 Wats RMS of Distortion Free Bass!!
Rear Cable Length is 25FT (7.5M) and Front & Centre are 20FT Long.
These speakers are awesome and look stunning!!
And at this price, £30 cheaper then the Z-680 which these replace, they are a bargain. The Z-5500 sell for £286 From Logitech Under £240 Here.
MUST BUY
Best I've found!
operating system:
Windows XPFirst off, brilliant speakers!
There are loads of features which allow control over how the speakers independent control over the sub, rears and centre speaker. Different inputs also allow to connect multiple devices and allow the use of coax and optical inputs (unfortunately my sound car does not have an optical out! I will have to amend this..)
If you are listening to movie or music which was recorded at an unusually low level, the speakers have a boost feature! Keep turning the dial after it reaches it's max, and it will go into the boost option allowing you to turn it up another 11 boost levels (FAR more then are needed! Even with a very quiet recording)
All in all, brilliant speakers, an excellent buy if u can manage to pay over £200 for speakers that is, although it is well worth the expense!
Work flawlessly with DVD's, and with music I have to keep turning down the sub as I have neighbours complaining.. (so best if u don't have any neighbours ;) )
The remote also has separate volume buttons for centre, sub and surround as well as volume for whole system. Nothing u can do with control centre that you can't do with the remote allowing complete control from a distance.

Logitech Z-5500
operating system:
Windows XPI thought my Creative Inspire 5100 was a good sounding set of speakers, until this beast arrived 2 days ago!
The picture i find very misleading. I was imagining the control panel to be the size of an Ipod and the sub to be maybe 9" square but i nearly fainted when the delivery guy came stumbling down my drive with the box! It is HUGE. The sub wieghs a tonne!!
Sub measures 13" x 13" x 19" (width height depth) - including the cooling fins on the back of the sub!
build quality is excellent. the whole system looks fantastic, with or without the speaker grilles on. I wired it up in no time to my Creative 5.1 card, and the difference is outstanding. I've had to turn the sub's volume level down to 1.5 out of 9 so that it doesn't vibrate the wall between us and next door.
I've watched a couple of DVDs and its so much better than my old set. Its like watching a different movie theres sounds i never heard before! The Pro logic movie effect makes it all much better, as does the music effect for music.
input socket on the side is handy for conecting an mp3 player, and the ability to adjust all the different channel volumes is very handy - say for a film when u cant hear the dialogue for the background action!
However i didn't buy it for the PC, i bought it to connect to a DVD player (Kiss Dp-1000 also from Ebuyer - get one!) by optical lead, which i don't have yet, but i'm expecting it to sound even better!
The speaker cables are not fixed to the speakers which means you can easily upgrade the cable if you wanted, or for extra length although i see no need! I don't really know if the length is enough for me yet as we're moving shortly and i'm waiting til then to wire it up permanently!
the control panel is very easy to use, easy to read, and looks very sexy on your desktop!
Overall this product is worth 10 out of 5!
I thought it was a little expensive when i ordered, but now they're here i would gladly have paid more! (I paid £210 + P+P)
Get some!
When a baby is born...
There are only certain occasions when a man can whole heartedly drop to his knees and cry like a little girl...
One of these is when a child is born, the other is when you plug in your Logitech Z-5500 speakers and listen to them for the first time!
The sound is breathtakingly clear, crisp and oh so powerful.
If you are atall considering 5.1 then these are definately the option for you. Although they initially may seem rather pricey (Logitech.com - £289.00) Ebuyer have once again brought an amazing item to our homes for only £200 (p&p inc). This is a bargain for the quality that you are getting and are without any doubt a brilliant buy!
OH YEAHS!
operating system:
Not Applicableiv had these since january, got em somewhere else, all i can say is... wow, such tremendous sound quality and bass!
oh and this is a bit late and hes probly figured it out by now but ill say this if anyone else has this "problem"
RE: Lee Worrall and the front left and right speakers being quieter, its cause youve got the others set higher, you can only change the volume of the center channel (front middle) and surround (back left and right) speakers, and the sub ofcourse.
so if you have them set to full then the front left and right will be lower than the rest, to have them all the same you need the center and surround set exactly to the middle of the guage.
Top sound system* RCM!!
operating system:
Not ApplicableLuggin a 27.4 KGS upstairs wasn’t so easy; System is excellent using a Coax Digital Cable with Creative Audigy 2 ZS Pro Plat (External Sound Card). Had the screw and nail everything down as the bass is powerful.
The picture is very misleading the Control Touch Panel is bigger then I thought (8”) a bit to big cant complain the system sounds perfect worth £202.00 Inc P+P would of easily paid more. Also found ebuyer was the cheapest on the net.
Beware please make sure the Sub Woofer is 60cm (23 ¾”) away from any electrical systems PC, Laptop, Monitor, Printer due to powerful magnets on the Sub, the cooling fins have to be away 15cm (6”) from objects. Bit little detail but just warn make sure you have the room. Sub Woofer Size 13x13x19 (W-H-D) Inc Cooling Fin.
Might give it a try for a little Party on Saturday.
Top Quality Product *****
What a Sound!
operating system:
Windows XPI bought these speakes from Amazon a while ago and I must have caught a deal because I got them for £170 all in. These speakers are so good they caused me to upgrade my sound card from an Audigy 2ZS to an X-Fi Fatal1ty just so I could have the extra digital output quality - and Im so glad I did!
Now firstly this system is LOUD. I tried some wave tests in the system and it can reproduce sounds as low as 31Hz but the sub seems to have a resonant frequency of 35Hz so this is when the sound has the most effect. The speakers managed to reproduce sounds in the range of 22-24KHz and ouch does it hurt, you can hardly even hear it but you feel a pain in the centre of your forehead.
For sound testing we tried many genres of music, Drum n Bass showed up quite well as this system is heavily bass-oriented and through the digital input the sound was so pure. Classical really showed off the range of the system and how dynamic it really is, it can hold a really good quality right up to the hilt. With a bit of extreme Metal the system is absolutely brutal, sitting just 50cm away from the sub with all volume leves to max (not boost) my chest was hurting and my light was rattling like it was going to fall down. A word of warning, my mates shelf DID fall off the wall and he has received formal complaints in bucket loads.
Soon me and my mate are moving into a house together and we will have two of these systems, 2020W of surround sound that is. We expect complaints before we even switch these things on.
Crackles and pops do occur on the system but not very regular and even less so if a Surge protector is installed.
My only gripe is; if you achieve digital silence by turning off all analogue PC inputs and use the optical input, the decoder will switch to NO DIGITAL DATA mode and takes a split second to switch back to data mode. This is noticable. To remedy this I leave one analogue PC input turned on at a very minimum volume at all times, this helps keep the channel open with a minimum of distortion.
I havent broken the 60cm equipment rule yet but no mobile phones or other small items have been fried while people have sat on the sub (it acts as a second chair), though I dont think Ill be risking putting it near my monitor or tower.
One of my best buys ever, five stars!
G500 VS*Z5500* OWNED + secrets!
operating system:
Windows XPive had dozens of 5.1 speaker set ups.
Creative 550thx, g500 and now logitech.
At the bottom, i have all the features hidden by Logitech on the control centre.
This is my rating.
megaworks 550THX would get 7/10
PROgamer g500 would get a 4/10
And z5500 would get a 10/10
Most areas in Britain get 240v - 250.
some areas get 253v give or take. the fuse on this system is sensitive, so when switched off from the back, and back on, the spike going into the system is large causing a fuse blow. Just unplug them dont switch them off at the back.
if so maplins work wonders for a 250v 2A fuse.
i gave this system 7 is because megaworks 550 were almost as powerful as the z5500, but they had dualcoil in the sub which decreases thier life but give higher sound.
G500 were clear, veryyy good with game soundeffects, but with music and films often maxing them out causing overheating.
Logitech speakers, power, and more power! found a way to get up to +22 boost! often dnt get past 6 before all the plates and furniture start flying around the kitchen and my room is nowhere near! i left a review on the g500 speakers, on this site i thought they were great, but these are 100% neighbours now officially hate me! g500 on maximum was like these z5500 on 3/4 without boost.
technical parts :P
2nd Skin: Put the control centre in Standby so that the screen is blank, then press and hold for 6 seconds: Input, Effect, Settings, and Mute buttons together. Your power button will now be "ultra violet" lookin from the default "red" and the sound bars will also change, you can change it by doing the same again.
Boost Mode: Turn the volume dial up, then keep turning. It will now switch to boost mode and get even louder. Boost up to +11.
i dont get it past +1 and my neighbours banging on my door
Up to Boost 22: This one is a bit tricky, as it doesnt work unless ur sitting on boost +11, but what u must do is, spin the dial all the way to boost +11, hold down mute and spin agen until in boost 22! Note, this will not work if you arnt on boost 11. this can be deafening, and u MUST MUST make sure that if you are on a boost 22, that you make sure u dont have any bass going to the satellites as they are to loud. As they cant take it.
Diagnostic Mode: Put the device into standby, as above, then press and hold Input and Effect buttons for 6 seconds. The control centre will now show more information about the connections plugged in, allowing you to see if the source is 5.1.
Got this system up when it was 176 pound, with postage.
GOOD GOD!!
operating system:
Windows XPnothing, and i mean nothing can prepare you for the size of the box for these speakers, the only thing that is bigger, is the sheer power. My old pc speakers were 4w...... and that was the two put together, so from 4w to 505w was a big step but one im glad i made, the control center is huge, its about the size of 2 ipods stuck side by side, and the display is easy to read.
Also i would like to point out that you dont need a soundcard, just a normal 1 socket thing like i do. As i have ordered the audidgy 2 thingymabob and they were out of stock or something but the speakers got here first, and so me being me and being impatient set it all up and got em plugged in. then just set the setting to 'dolby pro logic 2 music' i think its for hi-fi's and stuff but till the sound card comes, its bloody good!!
Its easy to set up, all common sence, and it DOESNT take a long time to set up. it DOES take a long time clearing up your room after, as there is so much stuff. When you get this, christmas, birthdays all pale in camparison. THESE ARE AWESOME!!
