The build quality on this is excellent, i think even an angle grinder may have a problem getting through the cable. The padlock is top quality, has a nice rubber coating, and you've got the added bonus of it bit more af a visual deterant over combination locks. I would imagine they'd be easier to break and get through.

And heres a little tip if you are like me and havn't come across a pivot device/lock before. Pivot means pivot... It slides apart in two halves, so that the prongs close in on each other to insert into the security slot on your laptop/montior ect:

good lock, can't go wrong for a fiver! Nice and sturdy. Perhaps a key combo would be better but that's just personal choice.

It just does the job, and is pretty easy to set up. The use of a key operated padlock is welcome, especially when you've read about how easy Kensington locks with round keys can be easily opened with cardboard. Like any other such lock, this is more a deterrent, as I am confident that the use of appropriate tools (e.g. pliers) would quickly go through the cable. So for this purpose, it can't be faulted, and for this price, it is a bargain. Worthy investment.

Have not seen the Kensington Lock so cannot compare but this one seems very well built and is a quarter of the price. It does the job perfectly on my Dell 6400. OK perhaps some people can open it in seconds but it is a visual deterrent and they appear to be able to do the same with the Kensington one. Also there nothing stopping anyone removing the memory, HD and other expensive components. Very pleased with item and still cannot fault ebuyer 100%.

Belkin Notebook Security Lock

Very good for the price. Metal parts are covered in rubber to prevent scratching the notebook. The padlock is rather cumbersome though and is awkward when fitted to a modern slim notebook. I’ve replaced this lock with a smaller suitcase style combination lock and still only spent half the total amount of the other notebook locks on sale here!

Great quality padlock, nice sturdy feel. However mine had been packaged badly by Belkin and for some reason the plastic on the wire had melted together, managed to prise it apart taking some of the plastic off but not what I expected. Also the lock itself which slides into your Kensington slot is a bit loose (not sure if this is normal. It seems to hold securely in the lock but can me moved about. I dont really use that part though, as I tend to run the wire in between the screen and hinge of my laptop (seems to make more sense)

However, at £5.54 I am more than happy with this! Especially as the Kensington equivalent is £25 and I really dont think its that much better. Have read reviews of people breaking into the Kensington ones in 30 seconds!

About what you'd expect for a fiver.

This device will indeed prevent a casual, opportunistic, walk-away theft of your laptop. It may even provide sufficient deterrent to prevent a more determined ne'er-do-well. However, it is quite easily defeated in under a minute with simple tools (or strong fingers) due to the quality of materials used. If you're serious about security, look elsewhere.
