Don't listen to the guy who wrote a review before me. I needed this processor as my motherboard doesn't support Prescott or the other popular P4 processors.

I put it in, put in a heatsink I found (since it's OEM, it doesn't come with an Intel fan), plugged it all in and hey presto! It works beautifully, haven't had a chance to overclock it yet.

For a 2.8GHz, this is a real good price, you can't go wrong. Considering this was my first build, I was surprised I didn't mess something up!

Since it's OEM, it comes in a little box about the size of a matchbox in a padded envelope via Recorded Delivery. You can pick up some pretty good CPU fans from Ebuyer too.

However, I'm picky and I think I may buy an official Intel fan from somewhere like eBay! :P

Anyway, hope this has helped!

Hey,
I bought this processor a while back now from elsewhere. It is fantastic.

Although its a Northwood not a Prescott it runs as good, if not better then my friends 3.0GHz with HT. It has a lower FSB and L2 Cache but they dont really effect anything.

Very good proceswsor runs all my games Excellent (Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life 2, with a 6800GT graphics card.)

Buy this processor if you want a cheap fast SKT478 Processor ;)

I bought this for an MSI 648 Max MB. Drops straight in and I am using the Intel Heatsink after giving it a clean and a new dollop of thermal compound. Runs at 30C idle speed and and usually around 47C when playing Medal of Honour. Definite performance improvement.

word of advice
review by: Anonymous os: Not Applicable

no !..don't buy the official Intel heatsink / fan..its hopeless...if you can get a freezer 4 it will let you up the FSB to 3.1Ghz no worries...

Intel are renowned for awful Prescott / Northwood coolers

hope this helps

PS..it is a great price ffor a good CPU though
( I run the prescot 3.4 Extreme 478..still blows any game apart)

Noticed that someone here said that they had overclocked their cpu - I have the Northwood 533 2.8Ghz running at 3.4Ghz with the stock (retail) cooler, and it has been like this for nearly 2 years as my gaming machine (with a Radeon X1950 Pro AGP card), so it is heavily used (Call of Duty 4 etc) and runs like a dream. Just about one of the best single core cpu's I have ever had.

It also runs stable at 3.6, but the FSB hike causes my onboard sound to stop working. If I get a sound card, it would run fine at 3.6Ghz...
