Lovely little thing

Great little card - first, ebuyer were impressive and delivered a day early on standard delivery.
Card ends up more expensive then it seems, £26+ with p&p, but frankly, it's worth it.

I downloaded the drivers straight from SafeCom's website, never bother with the accompanying CDs since they're always out of date.

I use a HTC Magician/QTEK s100 phone, and after installing the drivers, just pop the card in.
The reviewer that says that his card sticks out nearly an inch must have a different batch - the picture of the card on Safecom's site is inaccurate, although the dimensions given are correct - it sticks out about 5mm from my phone. It's very unobtrusive, and has a tiny blue led that flashes out random patterns for the aliens to read (actually - solid blue means a connection is established, flashing blue means data transmission).

The phone runs "Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition", and the card worked straight out of the box once drivers installed. However, "worked" is a difficult issue. The card did exactly what it's supposed to. BTW - the drivers include a tool to scan the local area for wifi, so it'll be useful for finding open connections in coffee shops etc, no other tools needed. Shows signal strength, WEP, data rate etc, most of what you'll need.

As I said, the card does what it says on the tin, found an open network and connected to it no problem. However, setting up the Pocket PC to use the connections can be tricky, so have a look at this site http://wifi.aximsite.com/wifi_net.html
Basically, you have to use your "Work" connection, and tell the PPC not to use proxies. After some trial and eror, got it all working perfectly, although I blame Microsoft, not the card for the difficulties in figuring out the Networking Settings.

Next ActiveSync: follow this page
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_september24.mspx

Basically, in your "network card" settings, choose wlan adaptor, and then "Name servers" tab, and in WINS enter the IP address of your host (desktop) computer that you want to sync with. Ensure you have ethernet syncing enabled on the desktop, and then open activesync on the PPC to sync through the air :)

If you have a Magician, I recommend doing the "extended ROM" hack to give yourself 27mb of "storage", and stick all your browser goodies in there so that you can remove your storage card and still have access to programs installed.

Finally, I recommend MultiIE (in the absence of trying Netfront 3.2). It's small and enhances Internet Explorer to be useable - full screen browsing in landscape is just about tolerable.
VNC works perfectly also, great for watching the desktop from the bedroom!

Hope this is useful; I was very nervous about ordering this card given how little feedback there was, but am very relieved to report that it works great (although haven't tested range much), is very small, as pictured above is only about 5mm longer than standard SD, and does what it's supposed to.

Vijay

Have an SPV M500 (aka imate jam, etc)
literally, install the latest drivers from safecom

http://safecom.cn/code/sub/category.asp?prdid=146&subcatid=2

bung the card in and away you go!!

the drivers / application provided lets you scan wireless networks, see if WEP is used, gives you MAC addresses, etc!

theres lots of software out there that lets you ping IP addresses, and do 'other stuff' also ;-)

arrived a day early. I was expecting it to be a bit of a struggle to get working but loaded software from the mini cd, popped the card in. Added the card mac address to my router, entered the 128 bit security code and set the channel on the PDA and bingo - connection.
It connects within a couple of seconds, and have had no problems with msn messenger, hotmail or any sites that are set up for pda's - google, yahoo, bbc and others have special pda sites designed for small screens. Off to find some suitable software to look at pop3 accounts.
All I need now is some free wi fi locations.
Highly recommended.

Excellent product works on a hp "rz1710" pda. It took less than 5 minutes to get it working and arrived on time. It only sticks out the top 10mm.

Works just fine on XDA2 (Qtec 2020)

Just like other reviews, this is a great, small card and does exactly what it is meant to do on an XDA2.
As per the first review, configuration actually took over an hour, but that's the fault of PocketPC OS not the wireless card.

Although it says that it works on PPC2002, I couldn't get this to work on my iPaq 3850, as the iPaq doesn't support SDIO.

Once I had set this card up on my Acer N35 PDA/GPS I was amazed how good it was at connecting to my home network. The internet and receiving/sending emails is very easy to achieve. At this price its a sure winner.

I have used this in a Mitac MIO 168 with no problems. Connected it to my DLINK G604 Router with no effort at all.
This is an Ebuyer rebranded SAFECOM SDIO card at less than half the price of other brands.
Works with WEP/WPA and v.good performance for 11b at 128 bit encryption!
Didn't drain my PDA battery much - even after an hour of sofa surfing(has powersave mode)
Can now get those cinema listings or prices and check my mail without having to power up the PC. - whoopee!
if in doubt download the driver pack (has documentation and more info) at http://safecom.cn

Couldnt be simpler for Acer N35

I bought this little diamond to go with my Acer N35 when I'm not in SatNav mode. what can I say.... I loaded the driver and utility (both from the disk supplied) and was happily logged onto my Netgear wireless network within about 5 minutes of opening the box. been connected now for about 2 hours without an issue. At this price you shouldnt even have to think that hard, just buy one - highly recommended

SD PDA WIRELESS CARD

This bit of kit is the easiest, most usefull that I have bought or used in a long while. Doom and gloom merchants all said they were "fiddly, unreliable, difficult to configure etc" Wise up, from postie to use 4 minutes!!!!! Not strangled by synch cables any more and browsing out and about a cinch.
I havent used the latest drivers yet just the ones out of the cd.
Another rumour scotched about this sticking yards out the slot too far, pah just 8.5mm .
One question, Safecom make a "g" version of this card, any chance of it being available?

This card is spot on, I have used it now for about 2 months. only thing to look out for is that you delete temp internet files from the path MyDevice/windows/profiles/guest/temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 On your Acer n35. Delete all files & folders exept index. Because after you've used the internet for a while it will clog up your Acer_n35 memory with temp files, once done you will find you have more room to run your GPS progs.
