GPS Ultra GPS receiver

Very happy, arrived 1 day early and was able to get working pretty quickly. I have a Dell Axim 5 running Windows PocketPC 3 and TomTom 3.

Took a few minutes to figure out not to use a com port but the CF setting in TomTom, other wise a real plug and play at a good price.

Don't be fooled by the cheap price and unknown manufacturer. This works a treat. I have used it with TomTom and Memory map as well as other misc GPS utils with a Dell X50 no problems at all. You need nothing more.

Works with Dell Axim X5 and TomTom Navigator 5

Had this for a few weeks now and works really well with my TomTom 5 software and Dell Axim X5 with PPC Windows 2003. It worked out of the box (uses COM port 5 on Dell Axim). As another reviewer below confirms, you don't get the external antenna with this item as is advertised here. Although, I have found the reciever to be very reliable without one in my car. Reading some CF GPS reviews on http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/holuxgm270ultra.php this unit maybe a rebranded Holux GM-270 Ultra (approx £150) without the external antenna. They both appear to be the same shape, have the same led, spec and have the same "GPS Ultra" lettering on the front but don't hold me to it.

Excellent value for money. I am also using it with a Dell X5 and TomTom V5, I can't believe that it can pick up satelites when it's sitting on the passenger seat!!

P.S. after installing the card and software you need to do a 'soft' reset so that the driver gets loaded.

What a fanatastic product. like the other reviews once setup its great. So far its been used on my PDA using TomTom v3 with the default GPS setup in TomTom as a wireless TomTom gps.
It has also been used on my laptop.

On both uses slightly difficult to setup but once configured works brilliantly.
No wonder its currently sold out.

I have a Dell X5 & TomTom GPS 3.03 (update in June04 available on TomTom website). To activate in TomTom, open the TomTom GPS application and on the GPS tab select Holux GM-270 CF as the model, then choose CF_CARD GENERIC. Activate GPS from within CityMaps/Routeplanner (File/Properties). Unit should work fine. The bundled application with the card is good BUT should not be used in conjunction with TomTom - they fight over using the card! This product is very impressive and cheap - highly recommended.

managed to sort it on acer pda

The problem i had in the earlier post was not the fault of the gps reciever. the CF 2 socket on the Acer n50 premium is reversed to allow access to SD Slot so gps plugs in led facing back of pda.
The help from safecom, when they got back to me, in a chat window, very good.
ammended to 5 stars.
had sat lock in 3 minutes sitting next to my computer.

Works a treat

As someone previously mentioned the Acer N50 premium pda has the CF slot reversed.
Because of this and the type of windscreen in my car I had initial trouble getting a signal.

So I bought a £10 passive external antenna:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48721&criteria=gps%20antenna&doy=30m5
It works a treat now, time to first lock under a minute and works fine in built up areas.

Tip: Combine this unit with tomtom and the pocketgpsworld speed camera database:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php

A notification goes off whenever you are within a configured distance of a known speed camera location.
