Great value for money!

Having moved and bought a new monitor I figured a new set of speakers would be in order. I was on a modest budget but limited on deskspace.

In the end I went for the Creative speakers and trust me, they look BETTER than in the pictures. The subwoofer was the main concern I had about buying a 2.1 system but thankfully it isn't that big. You get the two speakers, the sub and the remote controller too (which is wired into the sub).

The sub itself lets you plug in either a 3.5mm jack or comes with an adapter which allows you to plug in a right and left audio cable. The output is obviously right and left again and the wiring's sufficiently long to hide them behind the desk if need be.

The remote is also nice since it has a headphone jack which cuts off the speakers when it detects something plugged into it (an obvious thing really but still nice to know). The remote also plugs into the sub and has a small, blue led light to let you know it's on. Plus, there's a dial on the side of the remote to let you adjust the bass - trust me, this thing can pump it out!

Overall it's a great set for the money and space-conscious buyer. There's no 'hissing' but your soundcard may also contribute to that plus the thing just LOOKS like it belongs on a minimilist desk (yes, I have all the wires at the back with very little between me and the monitor, keyboard and mouse exlcluding). A great buy!

Pretty Shiny Things!

These speakers look absolutely gorgeous on my desk I am impressed with them even after 6 months. I am not an audio expert but they sound pretty good to me with more than enough volume. The only problem I had was configuring them to work with my ASUS onboard 5.1 sound was a little tricky

Nice design

With so many desktop speaker looking like boring boxes it is nice to see some design oriented offerings from Creative.

Things to like;

Neat desktop control for volume, power and bass, and nice blue light. Very compact design satellites. Place to plug in the headphones for late night listening. Good sound for games.

Not so good;

Sound is loud but lacking low frequencies making music sound muffled at the low end when pushed leading to unwelcome woofer cabinet resonance.

I bought them for the design, and use them for gaming. I am happy with the sound they produce for the price, but would choose something more expensive with better low end for music listening.

An update to my previous review

"Pretty Shiny Things"

After about 6 months of average use, I started to have trouble with the volume fluctuating to extremes when attempting to make small adjustments with the hardwired remote. A Google search shows this to be a common problem with Creative Speakers.

18 months after first purchasing the speakers I am considering getting a new set of speakers from a different manufacturer (but probably from Ebuyer) I am sad as these speakers still look like the most beautiful speakers I have ever seen.
