Great...
operating system:
Windows XPI bought this fan to replace a noisy, dying fan in my Q-Tec power supply. I am very impressed with the build quality, it feels sturdy, has no sharp bits and spins smoothly. I was also impressed to find that this fan is actually made by Y.S. Tech, a very well respected manufacturer of fans.
As for the usual 'noise to air flow ratio', I can safely say it is very good, it kicks out a lot of air and although it is not silent, it is very very quiet - I can't really hear it any more than my 14db silenX case fan.
One thing i do have to point out is that as this fan runs on ball bearings, it does produce a very small amount of vibration, therefore if you are going to use it as a case fan I suggest using rubber mounts rather than screws for maximum quietness.
All in all, if you are considering buying this, I don’t think you will be disappointed. 5* rating from me.
Great quiet fans
Have got a couple of these in my current rig and will be putting a couple into my new one when my Antec Sonatta II arrives. My AMD64 3000+ system runs cool and quiet.
Reduce your fan noise
operating system:
Windows XPGot one of these on rear of PC, + two Akasa 80mm's pulling air in through the front of my case, would have had a third 80mm on the side but a custom install meant I had to use a variable thermaltake instead.
However these fans are so quiet, not silent as others have said but fairly quiet especially in comparison to the 'cheap as chips' ebuyer ones I fitted last year when I built the PC.
No annoying LEDS fitted to the fans, ample length cables with standard speed control cable present. My only real pet hate was that the cables come terminated with the very small power connectors, which did not suit my PSU set-up. However supplied is a conversion socket which is at least double ended so you have the best of both or rather three worlds!
As far as I know these are the quietest fans ebuyer sell.
Total Class
operating system:
Not ApplicableOver time you appreciate these more as they do NOT use sleeve bearings, which are the main reason for noisy fans.
Simple test to see if your fan has a sleeve bearing is have it horizontal and see if you can get any movement on the fan up and down if it moves its a sleeve bearing, chuck it and get on of these.
Excellent Fans
operating system:
Windows XPAkasa Amber Series fans are possibly the best on the market. Not only are they quieter than most other fans, they have the same / higher air output.
Having bought a couple of these to replace my old apparently *silent* Coolermaster case fans, Ive found that not only is my computer cooler, by a sizable margin, but it is significantly quieter.
As people have mentioned, rubber mounts help too (Acousti Ultra-Soft Fan Mounts are very good, they replace the screws rather than just rubber washers between the case & the fan).
I seriously reccomend these and I personally wouldnt buy anything other than these fans in the future.
Quiet fan
operating system:
Not ApplicableI bought one of these for my Antec SLK3000B to cool my hard drives and it is unbelievably quiet, now the loudest thing in my computer is my CPU fan!! My only problem is now I have to buy a quieter CPU fan :D
Great fan
operating system:
Windows XPBought one of these for my Antec Sonata to replace the faulty case fan. The PSU fans started working overtime when it decided to occasionally stop spinning!
I took out the old rubber mountings on the Antec fan and used these to fit the Akasa. I didn't want any vibration being transmitted by using the metal screws provided.
When first powering on the PC, initial impressions were poor. To the touch the fan didn't seem to push much air. However, when the PC was properly booted up it was churning the hot air out very nicely. This was probably down to the fact it was connected to the motherboard rather than directly to the power supply. A check of the relevant sensor revealed it was running at around 1380rpm (rated 1400rpm).
The output is definately as good if not better than the Antec, it runs very quietly, and looks nice too.
Recommended!
Great fans :)
operating system:
Not ApplicableSo far I've bought 1x60mm, 2x92mm and 1x120mm akasa amber fans.
They are all very well built and are all extremely quiet. I even went to being the "artful bodger" and strapped the second 92mm to the top of my nvidia 6800 graphics card copper heatsink (using cable ties! :D) It reduced temps of the card by between 15-25 degrees C depending on the rooms cases ambient temperature and Not to mention almost completely silent! Shows how bad these small fans are in GPU's nowadays.
I replaced the 120mm fan in the Power Supply Unit (Make sure it is unplugged and had a chance to discharge.. DO NOT stick your hand in a PSU without understanding the risks, and you may invalidate your warranty), as that was getting bad being a sleeve bearing (it had a 2 pin connector, but the 3 pin will still fit securely over it.)
I used the other 92mm on the copper heatpipe heatsink for the CPU, and that is almost silent and much quieter than the old slow speed 80mm I used to employ. Even though spinning at only 1250rpm the amber is still reducing the temps by a few degrees. Very impressed.
Lastly the worst are normally the small fans. I replaced the 60mm case fan in a small media pc, and it is virtually silent, although I think you can hear the different tone compared to the larger units. Still very impressed.
In fact I will be also replacing the 2 120mm case fans very shortly with these units and even at there low speed these sleeve items are reasonably noisy, compared to the now almost silent unit I run.
I also run my system heavily overclocked, so I am actually very impressed with the capability of these fans given there quiet nature.
Bottom line - at such a cheap price, highly recommended and will give you back the sanity you never realised you lost.
A strategically placed fan can do alot
operating system:
Windows XPi was converting a full lenght movie from avi to mpeg 2 a hot job by any standards nevermind my little celeron d i was at 64'O put on of these i had in my drawer attached it to an external wall adapter and leant it up against my hEATSINK {HORIZONtal pc) i can now was movies while enocde and decode
Good stuff
Got this and two of the 80mm fans and now im running a fair bit quieter. Don't have to boost my music to get above the noise floor of the room my comp used to make.
Tip on installing, alot of people have said the screws are a pain to get in, they really really are. I almost stripped one screw trying to get it in then had a think.
I decided to get the lighter out. Hold the screw by the head with some needle nose pliers and heat along the shaft for about 5-8 seconds then carefully position the screw into the hole (get the comp o nthe floor so it drops in) and start screwing it in using the pliers as a guide untill it bites (heat for too long and youll just burn the plastic instead of melting it plus if you drop the screw its less likely to set fire to your carpet or you!). Easy, job done.
Dont try this if you're an idiot, and if you do drop a screw while/ after heating, dont pick it up with your fingers! The plastic cools and hardens around the screw holding it tight and keeping the shape of the hole it initially tapped, making unscrewing/ re screwing no problem.
