PS3 - In reality, it’s quite inferior to the 360.

Windows VistaBeing a video game developer (I develop for both, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360) people ask me almost daily which platform I think is better. These are my personal feelings, in no way does this reflect my employer.
Short answer: XBOX 360.
Long answer: Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category.
Price: This is obvious; the XBOX 360 core is only £199. The PS3 is around £425 for the 60GB version. It comes with a hard drive, but you don’t need a hard drive to enjoy a lot of great games on the 360, so I think it’s fair to compare both systems on sheer performance and nothing else.
Performance: On paper, the PS3 is more powerful. In reality, it’s quite inferior to the 360. Without getting into too many details, the three general-purpose CPU’s the xbox360 has are currently FAR easier to take advantage of than the SPU’s on the PS3. I suspect a few years down the road some high budget, first party PS3 exclusive titles will come out that really take advantage of the SPU’s and do things the XBOX 360 can’t, but I don’t think the console is worth buying based on this speculation (for some it will be though, we'll have to wait and see how these games turn out).

Buy the one with the hard drive

Not ApplicableI bought the core system Xbox 360 back in May because it was cheaper and I'd convinced myself I didn't need the headset/hard drive etc.
Wrong.
Should have bought the one with the hard drive, as I've just had to buy a hard drive and a headset having discovered Xbox Live (it transforms every game if you've never played online, I hadn't) and it ended up costing more for the parts than I'd have paid for the whole package.
However the previous commenter is correct -Xbox 360 is simply the best, knocks PS2 into the weeds, along with Xbox and probably PS3 - we'll see.
Xbox360 vs PS3
"Long answer: Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category."
The only disadvantage would be the HD-DVD that the Xbox 360 uses compared to blu-ray that is on the PS3.
Blu-ray gives about 75% more more data capacity then HD-DVD does.
Xbox also has the unified shaders architecture which means that it will display better graphics then the PS3.
PS3 on the other hand has a better CPU but is harder to program with and is the reason why the PS3 is soo expensive. A better CPU means faster loading times.
get one!

Not ApplicableGave up on playing PC games a year ago because couldn't be bothered to upgrade every year.
My advice? get an xbox 360 with a HD telly. You can't go wrong. Where else can you do hi definition gaming on a 42 inch television? Seriously. No hassle. Try games like bioshock, cod3, assassin's creed, halo3 ..
Hard disk is a must!
Woo hoo !! ..
