    What is a NAS device?

A network-attached storage (NAS) stores your data. It connects to a network rather than connecting directly to a computer. They posses a processor and operating system. But what does that actually mean? It means the NAS device can run applications so that employees can share files easily, all from the centralised network. Multiple people on multiple computers, on mobile devices and even remotely, can all work on and share files at the same time. *(For remote workers to access the network, it will have to be set up properly).

Why do you need a NAS Expansion Unit?

Normally, when most of us are on our own laptop or PC and we need more storage we either usually use a USB cable to connect a hard drive or SSD to the port of your PC. Mac users usually opt for Thunderbolt cables and ports. Usually, the hard drive is used exclusively by the computer it is connect to (this is known as direct-attached storage (DAS). But this only works on a personal level as you are the only person who can access this extra, stored info. If you are a small business and need more space with the convenience of being able to share data then you need a NAS expansion unit.

    Extra storage demands

Administrators not only need to focus on fulfilling current needs, they also have to monitor scalability and future-proofing issues. As you probably know, it can be costly and time consuming when you need to upgrade but there are lots of great, cost-effective expansion units available, which are easy to install and use.

    Synology

Ebuyer stocks all the leading brands of NAS expansion units including Synology. They offer a wide array of easy-to-use expansion units to be partnered with its flagship RackStation and DiskStation lines. While each of Synology's seven offered expansion bay models are tailored to specific Synology RackStation/DiskStation products, they all share several common features that bring Synology's ease-of-use philosophy full circle: plug-and-use design to minimize downtime, RAID management through Synology's DSM software, and a commitment to energy efficiency.

    Installation

As the RAID volume on the RackStation/DiskStation series can be expanded without going through the inconvenience of reformatting existing hard drives, the expansion units keep working throughout installation, thus ensuring that interruptions are slight. The expansion unit also provide for an excellent, cost-effective local backup solution to guard against data loss due to hard drive failure in the main device.
