Hot or Cold

Many laminators use heatseal technology to warm up the plastic - sometimes as high as 300 degrees Fahrenheit - that will be placed around the item you wish to protect. Once it has been sealed, and the adhesive has cooled, your product will have an added layer of protection. Alternatively, you can get a cold laminator that uses seals the adhesive to a document just by using physical pressure. While these tend to be safer than their hot counterparts, they often do not provide as comprehensive a level of protection.

Although you can pick models that specialise in either function, it's also possible to get laminators that offer both these facilities allowing you to choose the best option for the particular object you wish to laminate.

Size

As obvious as it may sound, you need to get a laminator that is an adequate size for the documents you wish to protect. You can choose models that are capable of covering A4 paper, while larger models can laminate A3 sheets.
