For most day-to-day office printing, standard A4 paper of a medium weight is generally suitable. However, if you want to make a good impression, heavier paper in a bright white could be a better choice. What's more, coloured paper and textured sheets – such as those with linen or parchment effects – are also available.

In addition to standard A4 printer paper, there are a number of other types of paper that you might need to keep your office equipment running.

For example, if you use dot matrix printers – products known for their durability and reliable operation – they require a specific type of paper with perforated edges.

Alternatively, you might need heat-sensitive paper. This is usually provided on a roll and is used with certain types of fax machine, tills and other devices.

Label machines and printing labels

From organising files to ensuring office supplies can be easily found, label machines have a variety of uses and items are available which can print information and logos on product labels.

When selecting a label machine, be sure that the device you choose will print labels of the right size for your requirements. You may also want to consider printers that can produce colours, if you don't want just black-and-white results.

Of course, you'll also want to stock up on blank labels for your printer. These usually come in rolls, while sheets are also a common choice. What's more, they are available in an array of colours and shapes, depending on what you need. Just make sure that the labels you select are compatible with your label machine.

Writing pads and notebooks

From keeping minutes at a meeting to writing reminders to yourself, composing notes to others or creating the day's to-do list, writing pads and notebooks come in a variety of types and designs.

Indeed, just as everyone will use these products in different ways, most people also have their own ideas about what works best for them. So if you're stocking up an office, it might be a good choice to have a few different options for your team to select from.

For example, some people will like to have reporter's notebooks. These are generally A5-size sheets that are wire bound at the top with a sturdy back cover. The pages are ruled and often have a vertical line down the centre.

Other options include A4-size sheets of ruled paper that have been glue-bound on the top or sides - some may even come with pre-punched holes so they can be easily placed in a ring binder. There are also spiral notebooks with simple black covers and items with coloured fronts and printed designs.

What's more, you might want to consider purchasing a message book. These make the process of recording and passing on messages easy, as they are pre-printed with spaces for specific information. Plus they make an automatic carbon copy of every note – ideal for record-keeping purposes.
