Why a projector and not a TV?

Your first thought when setting up a home cinema environment might be to go for as large a TV as you can afford. In a way this does make some sense, as everyone wants a screen big enough to give them the right experience. However, televisions in the 21st-century are incredibly complex and capable pieces of technology but are hampered slightly by the need to be kept in one position. Due to their size (and relative bulk) TVs are generally placed and then kept in one position on a piece of furniture, or perhaps hung on a wall.

A projector can be repositioned a bit more easily - but don't forget that you should still think about where you are going to put it, and also the availability of surface area as you'll need something to project onto. Investing in a projector means you'll be able to see your favourite shows and those classic movies on a screen of around 100 inches or larger! Obviously you will need a room big enough to cope with a viewing scale of this size.

Are projectors good quality?

Yes, they are! Dependent on the model (including 4K, which we'll come to in the next section), projectors can provide you with great picture quality at the level you need to really enjoy those films and shows as they were meant to be seen!

Projectors generally feature HDMI sockets for high-definition video equipment (which means DVD players, Blu-ray players, games consoles or digital TV boxes). You can also connect devices via USB, to some models, so you'll be able to look at photos, or you can hook up your desktop PC or laptop using the HDMI ports (if the projector has them). In essence, you can watch anything you want to.

What is 4K?

HD means a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which is great quality but on a very large screen you are probably going to need to think about 4K. This resolution has four times as many pixels as Full HD. With 4K there are 8 million active pixels on screen. This massive improvement in the number of pixels means that 4K is much sharper than HD.

What is a 4K Projector?

4K resolution is the cutting edge of consumer video technology, in terms of picture resolution. With high quality visuals, it's possible to bring something of the cinema experience right into the living room. The best 4K projector is one that is both stylish and effective. With different features available across different models, some projectors come with special light regulating technology. This means that even if there is daylight shining in, the picture from the projector will still be high quality and visible. These are features worth looking out for when choosing a 4K projector, if you want the best experience possible.
