RX 6800 at Ebuyer

With 60 Compute Units and 60 Ray Accelerators for real-time raytracing, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 sits in-between the 6700 XT with 40 CUs and the 6800 XT with 72 CUs. Inching closer to the RX 6800 XT, however, the non-XT variant gets you superb performance at 4K. Also, the RX 6800 has 128MB of super-fast Infinity Cache and 16GB of GDDR6 clocked at 16Gbps for up to 512GB/s of memory bandwidth. That's a reassuringly large amount of VRAM, doubling the RTX 3070 with 8GB and is even higher than the 10GB or 12GB RTX 3080 depending on model. To simultaneously run an ultra-high resolution like 4K and high-res textures, the RX 6800's VRAM is more than enough and will see you though an entire generation's worth of gaming.

Benchmarks - RX 6800

Compute Units, Infinity Cache, GDDR6 - these tech specs are impressive on paper, but how do they translate to real-world performance? Let's look at some benchmarks, provided by AMD, to see how the AMD Radeon RX 6800 performs in a range of games. From the latest GPU-intensive AAA releases to hyper-optimised esports games.

Gaming Performance - RX 6800

At a native 4K resolution - no upscaling techniques in play - and ultra-high graphics, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 ran Assassin's Creed Odyssey at up to 60 frames-per-second and Dirt 5 at up to 62 FPS. For reference, 60 FPS considered to be extremely playable and an ideal frame rate target to aim for. In DOOM Eternal, a ridiculously well-optimised game, the RX 6800 ran at up to 118 FPS at 'ultra-nightmare' graphics, the game's highest graphics pre-set.

Again, these are at 4K, so the RX 6800 clearly has enough raw horsepower to run at a locked 60 FPS for a rock-solid gaming experience. For a crisp resolution and a high refresh rate, it's worth looking into a 1440p gaming monitor.

With simplistic, highly optimised graphics, esports games aren't nearly as demanding as the latest AAA releases, but they let us see just how fast the RX 6800 can run. At a 1440p resolution and 'Epic' graphics, the RX 6800 ran Fortnite at up to 156 FPS and Overwatch at up to 266 FPS.

RX 6000 Series graphics cards, like the RX 6800, also support real-time raytracing and upscaling techniques like AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).

AMD Smart Access Memory - RX 6800

To not constrain the RX 6800's performance in any way, these benchmarks were run on a testbench equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X CPU and 16GB of 3,200MHz DDR4 RAM. As this is an all-AMD rig, AMD Smart Access Memory - or SAM for short was also enabled.

Power Consumption & Design - RX 6800

As you can see from these benchmarks, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 clearly delivers a high-end gaming experience, tackling the latest releases at maxed-out graphics and high frame rates. This may lead you to believe it's a power-hungry card that guzzles hundreds of watts, but remarkably, the RX 6800 draws 250W under load from 2 8-pin connectors.

For a high-end graphics card, this is a great power consumption. For comparison, the RX 6800 XT bumps this up to 300W. AMD recommends a 650W PSU to power an entire RX 6800-equipped gaming PC, whereas a 750W PSU is recommended for the RX 6800 XT. This is thanks to the power-efficient RDNA 2 GPU architecture the RX 6800 is built on, delivering 65% more performance-per-watt over RDNA 2.
