What's Smart Lighting?
Smart lighting is a type of lighting system that can be controlled via an app on your smartphone. We're not just talking about switching lights on and off, either. These apps give you granular control over your smart lighting system. If, for example, your smart light bulbs use coloured LEDs, you'll be able to control their colour and lighting effect.
Many of today's smart lights integrate seamlessly with voice-activated virtual assistants, too. Want to turn the brightness of a light down a bit? No need to even whip out your phone - just ask Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to do so.
How Does Smart Lighting Work?
Smart lighting is fitted like any regular old light bulb. It then either connects directly to your Wi-Fi or a central smart hub, allowing you to control it via a smartphone app or virtual assistant.
What are the Main Benefits of Smart Lighting?
Convenience
It's easy to control smart lighting. Whether you're sat at your desk or slouched on the couch, you'll still have access to your home's smart lighting system via your smartphone. Energy Efficiency
When you've got the ability to dim and switch off your lights right at your fingertips, it's even easier to save energy. Smart light bulbs use LEDs, which by themselves are more energy-efficient than ordinary light bulbs, and they last multiple times longer as well.
Smart Timer
You can set schedules for smart light bulbs so that they turn on and off at specific times according to your needs. This works as an excellent security deterrent. In fact, some smart light bulbs feature 'away modes' for this exact purpose, powering themselves up and down at random intervals to make it look as if someone's home.
