AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT Specs

The AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT debuts as part of a refreshed line-up to AMD's RX 6000 Series of graphics cards, alongside the 6750 XT and 6950 XT as well. These new cards are faster, beefed-up versions of the 6600 XT, 6700 XT, and 6900 XT respectively. While they feature the same underlying hardware as their standard counterparts, they're given extra juice to run at faster clocks.

For instance, the new AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT is equipped with 32 Compute Units and 32 Ray Accelerators for real-time raytracing, as well as 8GB of fast GDDR6 VRAM and 32MB of low-latency Infinity Cache. So far, this is the same tech-specs as you'd find on the standard 6600 XT.

AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT Power Consumption

However. AMD have increased the Radeon RX 6650 XT's power draw from a PSU to 180W, over 160W on the standard 6600 XT. This is where the 6650 XT's extra performance comes from, as it lets AMD push the card's clocks even higher. A reference model of 6650 XT can reach a blistering boost frequency of up to 2,635MHz, never mind aftermarket, non-reference models like the ASUS ROG STRIX OC 6650 XT which reaches 2,694MHz.

VRAM on the 6650 XT gets a bit of a boost too, going from 16Gbps on the standard 6600 XT to 17.5Gbps on the new 6650 XT, for an effective memory bandwidth of up to 468.9GB/s. This, paired with the 8GB size, means you'll have plenty of VRAM to load up on ultra-high-res texture packs on the 6650 XT.

AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT Performance

Compute Units, power consumption, boost frequency - by themselves, these figures don't mean a whole lot. If you're a gamer, you're no doubt interested in how they translate to real-world gaming performance. Fortunately, we've ran in-house testing here at Ebuyer on the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT and have produced all-important FPS metrics for some of the latest games.

We'll run through them right there, but check out our video It's Here! AMD Radeon RX6650XT Graphics Cards. First Impressions and Benchmarks over on the Ebuyer YouTube channel, in which guest presenter James gives his hands-on impressions with the new AMD graphics card.

These benchmarks were run on an AMD Ryzen CPU-equipped gaming PC with AMD's Smart Access Memory enabled, or SAM for short. SAM combines the power of an AMD CPU and an AMD GPU for up to a 15% boost to gaming performance. You can learn more about SAM in our blog in the read more section below.

Also, the model of card used was a non-reference, factory-overclocked MSI Gaming X Radeon RX 6650 XT, which has an out-of-the-box boost frequency of 2,694MHz. This card's high boost frequency, dual-fan cooling solution, and all-metal backplate is representative of many RX 6650 XTs you'll find above.

AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT Benchmarks

At a native 1080p resolution and a high graphical pre-set, the AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT ran the all-out destruction of Battlefield 2042 at an average of 102 frames-per-second.

Call of Duty: Vanguard ran at 181 FPS, though AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution was enabled in this benchmark. You can learn more about this FPS-boosting feature in our blog in the read more section below.

The Radeon RX 6650 XT ran Forza Horizon 5 - one of the best graphical showcases - at 98 FPS, and this was at an ultra pre-set too.

Let's switch over to the popular battle-royale genre. The 6650 XT reached 190 FPS in Apex Legends at 1080p and a high pre-set, and 242 FPS in Fortnite at competitive settings, enough to saturate a high refresh rate gaming monitor.

AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT at Ebuyer

These fantastic results position the RX 6650 XT as "AMD's new entry-level beast" for 1080p gaming at a high frame rate according to guest presenter James, and "a nice performance upgrade over AMD's existing mainstays in the GPU space."
