When going viral isn’t so great

Apple fires engineer after daughter’s video goes viral

Most YouTuber’s would kill to have a viral video.  A video going viral equals more publicity and can bring fame and fortune.

But Brooke Patterson’s video didn’t have such a happy ending.  It got her father fired.

Dad was an engineer at Apple who made the mistake of allowing his daughter to try out his iPhone X.  But the real mistake was letting her film it.  Especially as she then uploaded it to YouTube.

Simply allowing his daughter to make the video is a big no-no for Apple.  But the video also showed confidential employee QR codes.  Along with codenames for future Apple devices.

This was never going to end well.

Patterson has now removed the video.  Unfortunately Apple then removed her father.

They sacked him.

Ms Patterson though was quite philosophical about her dad losing his job.

She said: “At the end of the day when you work for Apple, it doesn’t matter how good of a person you are, if you break a rule, they just have no tolerance.

“Apple really did like my dad.

“And they let him go. Because he broke a rule.

“It was an innocent mistake, and he fully apologises.”

That’s good of him.  But maybe it’s Ms Patterson who should apologise.  To her father.
