Yes the blue hedgehog and cult hero called Sonic is back. Sega is bringing Sonic the Hedgehog to the Nintendo Switch. The original game is part of a bundle coming to the Switch this year.

Japanese gaming giant Sega has confirmed it is bringing new / old titles to the Nintendo Switch, including Sonic the Hedgehog.

The company announced it will release a bundle of its classic games for Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Sonic is making the Switch

Since launching last year, the Switch has been critically acclaimed and credited with turning around the fortunes of Nintendo thanks to its home and mobile console functionality, and hugely popular games such as Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

Crucially, Nintendo has also been active in bringing on board third-party games to broaden the Switch’s library of content – car-based football game Rocket League, Skyrim and Minecraft are notable examples of the Switch looking to entice users by appealing to the masses.

Sonic is back – but who else is returning?

Now Sonic will join that list, along with other Sega titles Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd In Miracle World, Gain Ground and Thunder Force IV.

In a tweet announcing the initial games to make the jump, Sega said they would follow the originals “faithfully” but also contain new elements to make gameplay more engaging.

The line-up forms a series the company is calling Sega Ages.

The news is another wave of nostalgia from the company, coming in the wake of its announcement that a Sega Mega Drive Mini is to be launched this year.

That idea also has links to Nintendo, which has found recent success itself, releasing miniature versions of classic consoles the NES and SNES in the last two years.

So happy days and just another reason why the Nintendo Switch should be on your shopping list.
