This iPhone space bar trick is amazing. It’s a way to quickly jump around the content of a text message. But apparently you’ve been able to do this on an iPhone since 2015. Who knew?

An iPhone keyboard hack that enables users to quickly move the cursor through the text of messages has sparked excitement among users. Despite being available since 2015.

What is the iPhone space bar trick?

It’s been flagged by several users on Twitter in recent days.  The feature enables iPhone users to press and hold on the space bar of the keyboard and then drag their finger around to move the cursor to any position they want. This is brilliant.

It’s caused such delight as many were still using old methods such as trying to tap on precisely where in a message they wanted to move the cursor in order to make edits. This was me until a few minutes ago.

However, the trick itself is not new. It’s been on 3D Touch-enabled iPhone handsets since the iPhone 6S launched in 2015.

This allowed users to firmly press anywhere on the keyboard to activate a virtual trackpad. But with the introduction of the iPhone XR, which doesn’t use 3D Touch, iOS has been updated to allow users without the feature to access it.

Starting in iOS 12, all iPhone users can press and hold on the keyboard’s spacebar to access the same feature.

Happy days.
