Quiet dog kennels will help our canine friends relax during loud fireworks. Ford has created the concept with the noise-cancelling technology used in cars and headphones.
Unfortunately, the kennel remains a concept. But pet owners throughout the UK will be glamouring to buy one when they do become available.
How quiet dog kennels work
Microphones inside the kennel detect the sound of fireworks. Speakers inside the kennel then transmit opposing frequencies. This reduces the loud bangs on the outside.
“Many animals find fireworks scary. And compared to people, dogs can hear things that are four times further away. Ad across a much wider range of frequencies,” said Graeme Hall, aka the Dogfather, one of the UK’s most recognised names in dog training.
“Preparing in advance of firework displays is the key. Part of that is to identify a place where your pets feel safe and happy.”
The idea for quiet dog kennels is the first in a series of Ford initiatives called Interventions. Every concept will look at ways to use automotive technology to solve everyday problems.
Why we need quiet dog kennels
In the last five years, animal welfare charity RSPCA said it has received 2,300 calls from concerned pet owners about fireworks.
The charity is campaigning for a restriction on the private use of fireworks to certain days of the year. Along with a reduction in the decibel levels.
They’ve got my support. But the sooner these kennels become available the better.
