You’ve heard of Black Friday. But have you heard of Cyber Monday? If not, you’re probably wondering what the deal is?
Is Black Friday not enough?
No, is the straight answer. There’s simply too many deals to cover in one day. But we’ll come back to that later.
Taking place on the first Monday after Black Friday, Cyber Monday offers customers a chance to mop up any remaining deals that they missed out on over the weekend. Or for some people, double up on even more mega savings.
The origin of Cyber Monday
Finding out the origin of the event isn’t difficult, it’s literally the first thing that comes up when you type Cyber Monday into Google. So, we won’t bore you with the details.
All you need to know is that in 2005 retailers decided that one day of door-busting deals wasn’t enough and that another should be introduced. That day was named Cyber Monday, as the idea behind the name was to encourage customers to venture into the cyberspace and push online sales.
The plan worked and as people began to realise they could find better bargains online than in the high street, the new event became extremely popular.
The days of needing to battle your way through a shop to grab that blender you’ve had your eyes on, are over.
No more PTSD for you.
What you should know
More often than not, if you’ve left a shop on Black Friday with nothing but a black eye, you’ll be able to bag the same deal online the following Monday. Retailers often extend their deals beyond the weekend, to give bargain-hungry shoppers even more chance to buy.
There are also usually a lot of new deals available, exclusive to Cyber Monday. It’s known that this particular day is better for bagging discounts on things such as speakers, toys and beauty products. That’s as opposed to Black Friday which is more renowned for saving money on TVs, tech and travel.
Is it worth it?
There is a lot of talk about whether or not getting caught up in the mania of Cyber Monday and Black Friday deals is actually worth it. Now, there’s no right or wrong answer here, depending on how easily you get stressed.
If you’re brave enough to take on the masses, you’ll no doubt be rewarded with a great saving. However, if you’re not a fan of going toe-to-toe with an angry middle-aged woman for a slow cooker then you’re better off staying at home and seeing what Cyber Monday deals you can nab.
