Keep yourself entertained during self-isolation…

self-isolation

These are unusual times. It seems as if, because of the global situation with coronavirus, there’s quite a chance you’ll have to subject yourself to self-isolation at some point. In effect that means you could be spending all of your time at home.

There is official advice out there about what self-isolation means – or, more specifically, how to go about self-isolating from a physical health perspective.

But if you’re not ‘working from home’, what about self-isolation advice from the perspective of taking care of your mental health? How do you keep yourself occupied and engaged when you’re spending 24/7 within your own four walls? Even more frankly, what can you do to alleviate the boredom?

Maybe you’ve watched your Star Trek: The Original Series box sets (again). You’ve caught up on the latest streaming TV drops after you’ve caned every series of Star Trek: Discovery and the new Picard. You’ve read that stack of magazines. You’ve blown out your braincells getting involved in some chat room banter. You’ve cleaned and tidied up your whole place (twice). And you’ve reorganised your collection of Funko-Pop figures (twice). So… what’s next?

How about a bit of gaming? That’s so addictive and engaging that it’ll take up lots of your time once you plug in and get going, and it’ll keep you excited and interested in something. There are loads of fantastic games to choose from, and you’ll almost certainly have a couple you either bought or backed up and got ready to roll.

So, of course, you’ll need a quality console or gaming PC.

Gaming PCs

Self-isolation means plenty of me-time. So now could be the right time to treat yourself to something special for your all-time gaming bonanza. An AlphaSync PC is a top of the line pre built gaming PC, using branded components from the best suppliers. NVIDIA, Intel, Corsair and Seagate are all built into AlphaSync, and the specs on each build are great – ensuring your gaming experience will look, sound and feel totally immersive. Gaming Consoles

With the Euro 2020 tournament postponed for a year (so not taking place until summer 2021), you can still sort of get your football fill. At Ebuyer the Playstation 4 from Sony is bundled with a copy of Fifa 20, the most recent edition of the EA Sports classic. There’s also the option to have two Dualshock controllers as part of the package, and the Playstation itself is available as either the 500GB or the 1TB model.

The Xbox is also available in a couple of special bundles, from Ebuyer.

This one includes an Xbox One S 1TB console, a wireless controller, a full-game download of the brilliant combat game Gears 5 (plus, amazingly, full-game downloads of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 2, 3, and 4); plus a one month Xbox Game Pass trial, and one month of Xbox Live Gold. And don’t forget that on an Xbox you can watch 4K Blu-ray movies; stream 4K video on Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube, among others; and listen to music with Spotify. Plenty to keep you entertained!

Ebuyer’s Xbox bundles also include this one, which is a completely disc-free all-digital edition. Your games, saves, and backups are safe in the cloud, and you can pre-install new digital games so you can play them the moment they launch. It has a 1TB hard drive (which can store the equivalent of sixty games), it’s WiFi enabled for online play, and includes three fantastic games: Sea Of Thieves, Minecraft and Fortnite. This package also includes one month of Xbox Live Gold.

Peripherals

It’s also worth considering one or two ‘tweaks’ to the efficiency of your existing home set-up. For instance, a wireless network router will ensure that you won’t have to worry about cables being run all over the house. Your smartphones, tablets, desktop PCs, gaming consoles and laptops can all use the internet connection via wireless.

Also extremely handy for ensuring an excellent internet service around your home are mesh systems and powerline adapters. Powerlines plug into your usual power sockets, and transform standard outlets into ethernet ports. They work with any router and can be set up in just a few minutes, easily expanding the reach of your network signal to any room of your home by utilising the electrical wiring within the walls of each room.

Ebuyer also stocks plenty of other tech to keep you amused, entertained and occupied during self-isolation. Good luck with your self-isolation – and good luck with all those fantastic games you’re going to play…
