The festival is also promoting special appearances from Common, Michelle Obama, Chuck D, and LL Cool J. The festival also plans to replay past sets from Lorde, Paul McCartney, Outkast, Arcade Fire, Chance the Rapper, LCD Soundsystem, Metallica, Run the Jewels, and Tyler the Creator.

Lollapalooza isn’t the first festival to go digital. Tomorrowland, a popular EDM festival, recently streamed a virtual edition of the event live for eager festivalgoers. YouTube has almost become the ‘go to’ platform in recent months with artists uploading a variety of live sets, acoustic sessions and many other performances.

Even online games such as Fortnite, a multiplayer battle royale, has seen artists take to its virtual stage to perform a short setlist. Travis Scott was the first big name to take part in a Fortnite festival with the event proving a huge success. The musical bonanza was so popular in fact, that it led the games creators to consider the possibilities for Fortnite and as a multimedia platform rather than just a game.
