May 2025 is for the gamers!
The shock release of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered in April had many gamers feeling like Christmas had come early. But the best part is that this is just one of many incredible titles we will get to experience. Gamers are going to be ‘eating good’ in May 2025.
In this article, we break down the top titles coming out in May and the PC upgrades you should consider to get the most out of them.
DOOM: The Dark Ages (15th May)
A prequel to the critically acclaimed DOOM (2016), DOOM: The Dark Ages is set in a dark, medieval world where the DOOM Slayer battles the forces of Hell in an epically gruesome and violent fashion.

This latest instalment introduces a whole range of new features that have created serious hype around the title for both die-hard DOOM fans and gamers who are new to the franchise. Here are some of the new updates:
The Cosmic Realm:
Players will be introduced to the new Cosmic Realm – a Lovecraftian-inspired dimension that offers a change of pace from the traditional hellscapes of previous entries. But don’t worry, this realm still delivers the demonic horrors we all know and love.
New Enemies:
Be prepared to face several formidable (and downright terrifying) new adversaries that are sure to challenge even the most seasoned DOOM players. These new foes will come at you with a host of differing combat styles and patterns, all requiring different counters and strategies.

The Reaver Chainshot
On the topic of tackling fearsome foes, players will be relieved to hear that we’ll be seeing the introduction of a brutal new weapon – the Reaver Chainshot. This “melee gun”-style weapon features both light precision attacks for single enemies and maximum-damage charged attacks for crowd control.
New Combat Mechanics
DOOM: The Dark Ages will feature a parry mechanism! Players will be able to test out the new ‘Shield Saw’ weapon, which enables them to block and counter enemy attacks effectively. This new system is sure to add another dimension to the already rich and fast-paced combat experience.
With a greater emphasis on storytelling, players will gain a deeper insight into the DOOM Slayer’s origins and experience a heavier, more grounded combat system. Developed using the latest idTech engine, this latest instalment promises stunning visuals and smooth performance. However, this means your PC may need some upgrades to get the most out of this highly anticipated title.

The expansion introduces a roguelike structure, where each session spans three in-game days and nights, culminating in a climactic battle against one of eight formidable Night Lords. Throughout their journey, players will face a whole host of new bosses, as well as iconic foes from previous instalments.
Nightreign will place real emphasis on cooperative gameplay and strategy, allowing up to three players to team up and battle the oncoming darkness together. Dune: Awakening (20th May)
Set in the unforgiving desert world of Arrakis, Dune: Awakening is set to deliver an exciting new open-world survival MMO, packed with intense survival situations and lore-rich exploration.

Arrakis is a seamlessly connected world with no load zones, designed to support hundreds of players per server. Players must construct shelters, craft tools and armour, gather resources, and secure spice fields to survive the constantly shifting environment.
However, it’s not just the hostile environment and sandworms that players will have to consider – there are Dune-lore-inspired factions that players can align with, allowing for large-scale PvP battles. You will need to choose your faction wisely, as this will impact weapons, PvP dynamics, and regional control.

If battling isn’t your style, you can take advantage of the PvE-specific regions, like the Hagga Basin, where you can focus on exploration, crafting, and story-driven content without the threat of PvP encounters.

Due to the game’s open-world MMO architecture, dynamic weather, and large-scale systems, medium-to-high-performance PC builds are recommended. Here is what we know about the minimum and recommended system requirements.

Metal Eden (6th May)

Think DOOM, but make it sci-fi! With an emphasis on fast-paced and fluid combat, this high-octane single-player FPS is set to offer players a challenging and rewarding experience. In Metal Eden, players assume the role of ASKA, an advanced HYPER UNIT android on a mission to rescue the consciousnesses of a lost human colony, stored within reinforced storage units in the orbital city of MOEBIUS.
Metal Eden promises a combat system that blends fast-paced action with strategic depth. Players will need to utilise wall-running, dashing, grappling, and jetpack-assisted jumps to navigate complex environments and defeat a wide array of foes.

Standard enemies can be eliminated swiftly using basic weapons, whereas armoured and elite enemies require strategic thinking and in-game combat mechanics such as charged shots, melee attacks, or the unique ‘Core Ripping’ mechanic. Extracted cores can be used as an explosive tool for crowd control or absorbed to boost abilities and strength.

The Midnight Walk (8th May)
Prepare to be unsettled and disturbed!

While the previously mentioned titles have all centred around fighting and combat, this folk-horror adventure is purely about evasion and survival. Players will journey along the treacherous path known as the Midnight Walk, accompanied by their constant companion, Potboy – a sentient lantern creature whose flame is essential for survival.
Players are guided through dark woods, cryptic ruins, and shadowy dreamscapes with only the light from Potboy’s flickering lantern to show the way. This light, while vital to your survival, also attracts various scurrying, monster-like enemies that lurk in the shadows and are designed to create a constant feeling of unease.

Players must use a combination of stealth, puzzle-solving, and strategic use of Potboy’s flame to navigate through areas populated by these monsters. The game emphasises evasion over combat, encouraging players to think creatively in order to progress.
The game’s standout feature is its visual presentation: every character, environment, and object is meticulously sculpted from real clay, then 3D-scanned and animated using stop-motion techniques. These monsters aren’t designed to leave you screaming in terror; instead, they linger in your mind, creating a general sense of unease and tension, unsettling you.
