Summer is officially here! While the weather isn’t holding up, we’ve got some exciting tech news that certainly is. In this article, we will break down the top tech news in June, including updates on the Nintendo Switch 2, AMD’s latest graphics card offering, major developments in handheld gaming, and your guide to the London Tech Show 2025.
Nintendo Switch 2
Earlier this month, on June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles became available for purchase from major retailers worldwide. Less than a week after the initial launch, Nintendo has reportedly sold over 3 million units, potentially making it the most successful launch of any console ever.

With an RRP of £395.99, the Switch 2 comes in at over £100 more than the original Switch, which retailed for around £280 at launch.
Featuring a larger 7.9-inch 1080p screen, a custom Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, upgraded internal storage of 256 GB, and a new GameChat feature for social play, it is clear that we are seeing a console with some very exciting upgrades.
It’s not just the console upgrades that have fans excited; we are also seeing a whole host of new games releasing soon.

AMD Radeon 9060 XT
Last week, on 6th June, the highly anticipated AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT launched.

Positioned as the successor to the extremely popular RX 7600 XT, the 9060 XT aims to redefine mid-range PC gaming by offering impressive performance-per-watt, AI-accelerated features, and a competitive price point that undercuts NVIDIA’s offerings in the same bracket.
Ranging from £269.99 to £369.99 depending on variant and memory size, the 9060 XT strikes a compelling balance between price, performance, and futureproofing, making it a go-to option for gamers seeking premium 1440p or entry-level 4K performance without breaking the bank.
Key features include:
- Up to 25% performance uplift over the RX 7800 XT
- Superior ray tracing efficiency thanks to optimised RT cores
- DLSS 3.5-level upscaling with improved motion interpolation
- Unrivalled power efficiency at just 225W TDP

Microsoft & ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Handhelds
This week, we’ve had some major news from ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG). In collaboration with Xbox, they are releasing an all-new series of Ally handheld consoles.
Unveiled to fans at Summer Game Fest 2025, the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and its high-performance sibling, the ROG Ally X, mark a major milestone in the rapid rise in popularity of console-grade gaming and mobile PC performance.

The ROG Ally X, in particular, stands out with a custom AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU built on Zen 5 architecture, 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and a vibrant 7-inch 1080p 120 Hz display. It also introduces improved thermals via a new vapour chamber cooling system, ensuring consistent performance under load.
While both models run Windows 11, Microsoft has introduced a new Xbox Handheld UI layered over the OS, streamlining navigation for thumbstick and touchscreen use, and enabling seamless access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Remote Play, and DirectStorage. The devices support features like Quick Resume and FSR 4.0, and are capable of running even PlayStation titles via PC ports.

Battery life has seen a major upgrade, with the Ally X sporting a 65 Wh cell for up to 8 hours of gaming, backed by 100 W fast charging via USB-C. Additional highlights include programmable rear paddles, Hall Effect joysticks, and a lightweight magnesium alloy frame with subtle RGB accents.
While an exact launch date hasn’t yet been confirmed, we know it is on track to launch later in 2025. This likely means September onwards, with pre-orders opening earlier.
