All the new changes in Warzone’s January 2021 patch

1

Call of Duty: Warzone is a F2P Battle Royale standalone game set in the Call of Duty universe. In order to bring further improvements to the game, patch updates are released every now and then. These updates are aimed at improving certain aspects of the game, or to bring in newer content to the game.

The latest patch update rolled out in January certainly had a lot in store for players. Not only did it feature various life improvements and fixes, but we also got to see a DMR rework. Here is a brief overview of everything new that was released in the update.

Everything new in Warzone’s January patch update:

The biggest highlight of this latest patch was all the balancing that was made by nerfing a variety of weapons. The DMR 14 received a huge nerf. We have already seen the gun get nerfed plenty of times in the past. It is important we mention that all of these changes are being made to Warzone only, as these guns should perform the very same in Cold War.

DMR-14 Nerf:

  • The bullets will no longer penetrate like a Sniper, but will be reduced to the likes of AR instead.
  • The second and third bullet of the gun will now have more recoil.
  • Damage falloff ranges have been further decreased. While it used to be 55 damage before, now there is a 48 damage falloff after 750 units.
  • Subsequent bullets to have more recoil than before.
  • Headshots will no longer trigger 100 damage after 750 units.
  • Damage below torso is reduced to 1.0.1 from the previous 1.1.

Attachments Nerf for DMR-14:

Front Grip:

  • Reduction of vertical recoil has been removed.
  • Reduction of horizontal recoil has now been increased to 30% from the previous 20%.

Field Agent Foregrip:

  • Vertical recoil reduction has now been decreased from 35% to 25%.
  • Horizontal recoil reduction has now been increased from 35% to 30%.

How Will This Affect the Game?

On paper, this is a massive nerf to the gun. However, we have yet to see how it actually performs in-game. We all know just how good DMR-14 used to be even after receiving countless nerfs before. However, this particular patch update had possibly one of the biggest nerfs to DMR-14.

It could even be regarded as a complete rework, considering how many changes were made to it. Not only were dozens of nerf made to how the gun performs, but even the attachments were nerfed for the gun. We can also see a number of stats for the gun get completely changed.

But we can all agree on how this was definitely one of the necessary changes that had to be made. The DMR-14 meta was directly having a negative impact on the game, if we take into account just how OP the gun was.

However, many players from the COD community are still frustrated by the number of nerfs this update brought to the beloved DMR. On the other hand, plenty of them are actually glad at the fact that the gun finally received the nerf that it deserved.

Other changes in the January patch update:

Type 63 Nerf:

  • Type 63 bullets will also penetrate as an AR instead of a sniper.
  • The damage falloff ranges has now been decreased to 45 damage after 900 units (60 damage before the nerf).

Type 63 Attachments Nerf:

Front Grip:

  • Vertical recoil reduction has been removed whereas the horizontal recoil reduction has been increased from 20% to 30%.

Spetsnaz Ergonomic Grip:

  • Vertical recoil reduction is now decreased from 45% to 30%.
  • Horizontal recoil reduction has been increased from 45% to 40%.

Fix for Mac-10 Blueprint:

  • For the Gallantry SMG blueprint, all of the gun’s stats have been refreshed to match with the base Mac-10.

Diamatti (Akimbo) Damage Nerf:

  • Damage multiplier for all body parts have been set to 1 (No extra damage will be dealt on any part).
  • The maximum damage reduction has been reduced from 45% to 40%.

In case you aren’t familiar with the gun, Dimatti is one of the many guns in Warzone that has the option of dual-wielding. This nerf was to directly affect the dual-wield damage of the gun. The nerf suggests that the gun won’t be getting a damage multiplier based on the opponent’s body parts.

Bug Fixes

Apart from all these changes, we also got to see a few minor fixes. These include the removal of stim bug when players drop their weapons while they are cooking a grenade. Also, seasonal challenges have been fixed so they appear whenever intended by the player.

The Bottom Line

There is no doubt that the January 2021 patch update had plenty of changes, mostly consisting of nerfs. As already mentioned above, we can’t really tell just what kind of impact will all of these changes make to the game.

Will the DMR finally become a balanced gun thanks to this nerf, or will it still be used to dominate other players? It is also questionable on how the meta will change due to all of these nerfs. Only time will answer how these changes impact the game.
