Corsair Void RGB Wireless Headset Review

Looking for the perfect gaming headset? Look no further than the Corsair Gaming Void Pro. The headphones and microphone offer superb quality and value for money, and from a big name like Corsair, it’s designed with PC gaming in mind.

A headset with excellent, detailed audio and a clear, reliable microphone is essential for gaming. You need to catch all the details of the soundscape, whether it’s the atmospheric backdrop of Skyrim or the footfall of an enemy in Black Ops 4. You also need to be able to communicate clearly with your fellow players and teammates if you’re in the thick of it in League of Legends or Battlefield and need to make strategic decisions on the fly.

Corsair Components has been making computer hardware and peripherals since the mid-1990s. The company has achieved a particularly strong reputation for its gaming peripherals, high-quality and high-end products from cases to keyboards that have become a must for PC gamers. Among these products is the Corsair Gaming VOID Pro RGB Wireless headset with 7.1 Dolby. It’s the sort of headset that ticks all the boxes for a reliable mid-range addition to your PC gaming set-up.

It’s stylishly designed, finding a happy medium between sci-fi distinctiveness and real-world comfort. The cups, for example, aren’t your typical rounded or oval shape – they’re designed to naturally fit with the shape of the human ear. The main part of the build is a strong plastic, although the Corsair Gaming Void Pro provides you with an extra sense of durability due to the metal hinges that connect the cups to the headband, and also offer 90˚ of movement, so you can drop them round your neck or adjust them to your comfort. Comfort is also achieved through plenty of memory foam padding on the cups and headband, all covered with a breathable microfiber mesh cloth.

The microphone is attached to the left cup, and has a nifty feature – it activates when you fold it down and turns off when you fold it up again. The arm can also be manipulated – bent – to position it perfectly. The left side of the headset also features a power button, mic mute button, volume dial and micro-USB for charging. Of course, you’re not just interested in physical attributes. The Corsair Void mic is responsive, and reduces ambient noise. It’s also good for recording, if you’re capturing to livestream or upload your gaming activities. The mic’s sensitivity is -38dB (+/-3dB).

Soundscapes

Beyond the microphone characteristics, the most significant aspect of any headset is its audio quality, and the Corsair Gaming Void Pro delivers, with its Genuine Dolby 7.1. While the sound signature is versatile enough in its range to provide a pleasing experience for watching films, listening to music, or even video chat, it really comes into its own for gaming – after all, that’s what it’s designed for. Indeed, the Void’s presets are mostly for gaming, with one for movies.

Headsets designed with gaming in mind can often be skewed towards the lower tones, to emphasise the sounds of explosions and gunshots. But that’s not the only audio experience you’ll have in games, especially if you play other genres to FPSs. Don’t worry, the Void can able handle the low stuff, for Overwatch or Doom explosive action, but it is also great for more diverse soundscapes, such as the water slapping against your boat as you explore the Skellige seas in The Witcher 3 or even the more exotic sounds encountered while exploring Subnautica’s alien world. If you want the more tech specs of the headphones, they have a 20Hz-20kHz frequency response, 32k Ohms at 1 kHz impedance and 50mm drivers.

The Corsair Gaming Void Pro RGB is also available in wired, but this wireless version has a decent range. They claim it’s 12m – which would be credible if you had a room that big, but of course the real world gets in the way. As you’re likely mostly sat at your desk while gaming, it’s great, but if you do wander off into another room to get a snack, walls and furniture may have an effect on your 2.4GHz signal.

The wireless also means you have to remember to charge the headset (with the included 1.5m cable). The battery life is pretty good – 16 hours on average – but the other factor to bear in mind is the RGB. The Void comes with Corsair logos on both cups, and these are the RGB elements. You can chance the colours or effects, to blinking, breathing, etc, but you may be tempted to disable the RGB which will help with battery longevity.

The headset also comes with the Corsair Utility Engine – which is not only how you change your RBG settings, choose profiles, tweak profiles and utilise the equaliser, it also means that if you’re fan of Corsair products, such as K95 RGB keyboardDark Core RGB mouse or even the ST100 headset stand, you can synchronise the RBG effects for a full, pulsing, glowing, multicolour bonanza – your own desktop gaming party!

All in all, you can’t hope for a much better wireless gaming headset at this price. The Corsair Gaming Void Pro RBG Wireless is well made, offers top-notch, varied and versatile audio capabilities and is easy to set up. The 7.1 sound is rich and specific, the mic sensitive, the design distinctive, and the RBG a fun addition (if you like having glowing ears). Spending twice as much might give you more longevity and a better mic, but for gamers on a sensible budget, look no further than the Corsair Gaming Void Pro RGB.
