Steelseries Rival 110 gaming mouse review

1

The Steelseries Rival 110 is a great all-round gaming mouse thanks to its customisability and comfort. It has a large sensitivity range at this price point and has basic programmable key and mouse setting customisation. The Rival 110 packs a punch and is a great mouse to keep you on top of your game on a budget. It strips the concept of a gaming mouse back, providing an effective, high-quality mouse to complement any system.

Build and Features

The Rival 110 is made of durable, high-quality plastic and is finished with a fingerprint-resistant, semi-matte top cover. This is great as the mouse stays clean and sits snugly in your hand, so you won’t have any fear of losing grip in clutch moments. The mouse comes in three colours but we prefer the black version as it looks the sleekest.

In terms of the features, it isn’t an ambidextrous gaming mouse as it has two programmable keys on the left of the mouse for your thumbs, but they are well placed for quick actioning. It’s important to note that the Rival 110 would be more suitable for you if you use a claw grip, however it’s comfortable enough to use for long gaming sessions if you’re a palm or fingertip grip gamer. The CPI rocker is well placed and allows for quick switching between CPI profiles, minimising time spent getting ready to jump into a game.

On the tech spec front, it has a CPI range of 200-7,200 and can be changed in 100CPI increments. The sensor itself is Steelseries TrueMove 1, so it’s a high-grade sensor that ensures you have maximum precision while gaming. Furthermore, it’s exceptionally lightweight, weighing only 88g so you won’t have a tired arm or wrist. Combine this with a 30-million click life and a generous 2m cable, this mouse is a great budget option.

Software and Compatibility

After you plug in your Rival 110 you’ll need to download Steelseries Engine 3, the platform where you can customise your settings – it’s easy to navigate and the customising options are very clear. You can customise CPI, polling rate and cursor acceleration and deceleration. You also have the option to have two CPI settings which you can scroll through on the fly. Furthermore, you can set-up unique profiles for different games, and you can set the profile to kick in as soon as you launch a particular game.

On the RGB front, the Rival 110 has basic customisation that can be done through Steelseries Engine 3. You can have your choice of colour on the Steelseries logo on the body of the mouse and the colour of the lights on the scroll wheel. This is a great touch as you can personalise your mouse to match the colour scheme of your rig, although note that you can’t have different colours for each area – they will be the same colour.

As standard the mouse is compatible with Windows, MAC and Linux so suitable for the mainstream operating systems; Steelseries Engine 3 is compatible with Windows 7 or newer and MAC OSX 10.8 or newer.

Verdict

Overall, the Steelseries Rival 110 gaming mouse is a brilliant wallet-friendly option. It comes with a great CPI range to suit whichever game or sensitivity you want, on-the-fly CPI toggling and programmable buttons. It strips back the purpose of a gaming mouse and provides you with the essentials to ensure you own the competition.
