Whether you’re a headset pro or gaming virgin, you’re likely to have seen the name Turtle Beach in many online reviews – that’s because the company is one of the leaders of the headset industry, having produced some award-winning gaming products.
One of their offerings from 2018 is the Turtle Beach Elite Pro headset. It’s been designed with eSports athletes and avid gamers in mind, making it a step-up from previous models. Bearing this in mind, it should be no surprise this headset is relatively pricy. But is it worth the extra investment? Here’s our opinion .
About Turtle Beach Elite Pro
+ Incredibly comfortable
+ Fantastic sound quality
– Expensive
Comfort
The Turtle Beach Elite Pro has a range of features that makes it a joy to wear, even for the longest of gaming marathons. The most innovative is the ComforTec Fit System, which allows you to adjust the headset for a perfect fit. With two sliders that can loosen or tighten the headband and ear cups that can be raised or lowered, this headset can be adapted to suit every gamer.
The ear cups are a generous size, so they fit comfortably over the ear and conveniently mould to the head to help block out background noise. Padded, Aerofit gel-infused cushions work to keep your ears cool from the moment you put the headset on. Even during the most heart-pounding car races or intense shootouts, you’ll always keep a cool head.
Gamers with glasses are well catered for with this headset, thanks to the ProSpecs glasses relief system. This clever technology relieves pressure on the frames by allowing you to adjust the ear cushioning to accommodate your glasses.
Looks
With its sleek black looks, the Turtle Beach Elite Pro is an attractive bit of tech. It has a more refined appearance than previous offerings and
features bright-orange accents for added style.
Being predominantly black, this headset will complement most gaming systems. The flashes of colour are relatively subtle, so even if the rest
of your set-up doesn’t match the orange shades, the headset doesn’t glaringly clash.
Design
This headset doesn’t just look good; its design is also impressive. The solid, chunky build gives you confidence in its durability and function. It’s clear this is a headset designed to withstand even the most intense and lengthy gaming sessions. The large ear cups also show that this headset means business – but it also has a softer side. A range of features are designed for your comfort, including the ear cups with their cooling cushions and the suspension headband that’s easily adjusted to fit your head perfectly.
Both ear cups swivel, so you can easily lay the headset flat when you’re not using it. The microphone is located on the left ear cup and is fully
bendable, so you can adjust it and ensure you’re clearly heard in every game. It’s also detachable, so you can go from shouting commands in the heat of battle to enjoying your favourite music in seconds. Thanks to the 3.5mm headphone jack, this headset is compatible with both PC and console gaming, as well as for listening to music on your smartphone.
Performance
Boasting 50mm Nanoclear speakers, sound is always crisp and clear with less distortion, meaning you can enjoy a fully immersive gaming experience. This makes the headset great for playing FPS games as you can hear every single footstep but also be exhilarated by the sound of explosive action all around you. Feel as if you’ve gone back in time when playing a medieval-themed RPG with every distinct voice and noise from the days of yore bringing the game to life.
While the sound is top quality for gaming, you might find it struggles to do justice to your music collection. The bespoke speakers offer great range but lack a little bass when compared to the performance of headphones made exclusively for listening to music. But as you’ll highly likely be using the Turtle Beach Elite Pro just for gaming, this isn’t a huge issue.
Microphone
The microphone is bendable in every direction, so adjusting it to suit your needs is a breeze. It’s also detachable, providing plenty of flexibility
for moving between gaming and listening to music or your favourite podcast.
It benefits from TruSpeak technology, meaning your voice can be heard loud and clear. This is also the case with voice recordings, with no distortion or background noise affecting their quality. You can easily control the microphone by muting and adjusting the volume with a slider and button combo on the cable, avoiding any fiddling around with computer settings.
Turtle Beach also offer a specific noise-cancelling microphone that can be bought as an optional extra but we don’t think that’s really necessary, unless you’re a lover of LAN parties.
So, that’s the Turtle Beach Elite Pro headset. It’s a robust, comfortable piece of kit that won’t let you down. You can buy accessories to enhance
the headset’s overall performance but we really don’t think that’s necessary, as it more than does the job.
It does come with a big price tag but you also get plenty of high-quality features you just won’t get from a cheaper product. It’s more expensive
than its wireless competitors but in our minds this is a headset that easily justifies its price.
