Case fans & cooling fans at Ebuyer
Many of the hardworking components in your computer - including the processor, graphics card and more - generate waste heat as a side-effect of normal operation.
In gaming-grade rigs belonging to enthusiasts and overclockers pushing their components to the absolute limits of performance, the consequent high level of heat could prove detrimental to the system's stability and lifespan.
As such, case fans and cooling fans are essential for helping regulate a system's internal temperature, by drawing in cool air from outside a computer case, exhausting out warm air and for guiding air flow through a CPU cooler's heat sink.
If you can't stand the heat… get a cooling fan
An overheating computer can lead to performance penalties and unwanted consequences. Components inside your system have a max operational temperature often listed on their spec-sheet.
If a component manages to reach this sweltering temperature, 'thermal throttling' will kick in - when a component's clock speed is reigned back in order to protect itself from too high of a temperature.
Otherwise, your system could employ drastic measures like a full-on shutdown to prevent damage to a component.
Out of these two, thermal throttling is a preferable option, but it's far from an ideal scenario. When throttling occurs, expect worsened performance and sporadic freezes as a component's clock speed goes lower and lower to achieve and acceptable temperature.
Why limit your component's performance and risk this preventable scenario when there's so many case fans and cooling fans available right here at Ebuyer, at such great prices?
Why buy a cooling fan?
An effective and efficient cooling fan will not only reduce the temperature of your components, it'll also extend the extend the lifespan of your whole system. As well as reducing the chance of encountering a performance-related frustration, a fan-assisted cool interior could save you money in the long run.
When choosing your cooling fan, you must closely consider its dimensions. You obviously need a cooling fan that'll fit inside your computer case. You could also look out for a rubber mounting mechanism for vibration absorption, among other noise-cancelling features.
How many case fans do I need?
For a loose guideline to adhere to - the more power-hungry your components, the more case fans you'll want.
If you're building a system with a power-sipping chip with integrated graphics and no discrete graphics card for day-to-day use, it isn't going to generate a considerable amount of heat. The bundled-in stock cooler with your processor and at least one rear-mounted exhaust fan - the standard shipped with most computer cases - should be adequate.
As a component's power increases, it generates more waste heat, necessitating an appropriate amount of case fans.
What's the optimal fan configuration?
Ideally, you want what's called a push-pull configuration. With intake fans pushing cool air into the computer case and exhaust fans pulling hot air out of it, so there's an abundant and consistent movement of air throughout the air for improve cooling potential.
With more case fans, you've got a greater control over the air's directional flow in your computer case. This can be used to deliberately funnel cool air over hot components and whisk away waste heat as soon as possible. A computer case has mounting holes all over for case fans for this exact purpose - in the front, rear, top and more.
Is there such a thing as too many fans?
Many gaming-focused cases come with two fans, if not more, but you can always pick up some extra fans right here at Ebuyer. But cooling's a careful balancing act - it's too easy to go completely overboard with fans.
Chucking a case fan onto any available mounting hole in your PC case is inefficient and can have a negative impact on your system's cooling. Too many fans and you'll be blowing air any which way, disrupting a proper air flow. Instead, try to visualise this air flow and strategically place fans in their optimal position.
For a more in-depth explanation behind a push-pull configuration, a computer case's air pressure, fan size and more - here's what you need to know about PC cooling.
Whether you are a hard-core gamer, multi-media professional or overclocker, you'll be a fan of our cooling solutions.
