What exactly is the Apple M1?
The Apple M1 is arm-based system on a chip which was designed by Apple specifically for their Mac desktops, MacBook notebooks, iPad Pro and iPad Air tablets. It is central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU). When it was launched in November 2020, Apple claimed the chip had the fastest CPU in the world (in low power silicon) along with the best CPU performance per watt. March 20222 saw the latest version unveiled, the M1 Ultra. The M1 runs on Apple's macOS and iPadOS operating systems.
Which Apple Macs have M1?
MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro , the Mac mini, and the new 24-inch iMac. The newest iPad Pro also uses the M1. Apple M1 offers tantalising improvements to computing performance, graphics output, and battery charge which lasts almost 20 hours.
What does the M1 chip give you?
The boffins at Apple say that the M1 chips provider power beyond belief and guess what. They are right. The Apple M1 is the most powerful chip it has ever created and the first chip designed specifically for the Mac. Optimised for Mac systems in which small size and power efficiency are critically important, it combines numerous powerful technologies into a single chip, and features a unified memory architecture for dramatically improved performance and efficiency. We know it is easy to get bogged-down in tech jargon, but what this really means is a giant leap forward for Apple and mankind!
16 billion transistors
Built with cutting-edge 5-nanometre process technology, the M1 chip is packed with a mind-boggling 16 billion transistors, which is the most ever bunged into a chip by Apple. The M1 chip promises and delivers. 3.5x faster CPU performance and up to 6x faster GPU performance. This is a massive increase in performance and efficiency.
The best ever
Apple Mac computers have been the most desired computer for professionals (and, in fact, for most people) for years. Their reputation speaks for itself and the combination of remarkable performance, powerful features and incredible efficiency put it even further in front.
Why buy Apple?
Whether you are a professional video editor or a casual user who just want to work and play on a great system, you cannot go wrong with a Mac. They have a great operating system which includes built-in security and a user-friendly interface. They are a joy to use and give you everything you need for effective working at home, in the office or on the move.
Apple security
Apple computers do not need a third-party anti-virus software for protection. This is because the operating system is designed with protection already built-in. Most mac users have had Apple computers for years without any viruses causing mayhem. The Apple security software keeps your computer running clean and efficiently.
Apple laptops
The MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro are the three computers produced by Apple, and each has their own strengths. For everyday use you may want to consider buying a MacBook or a MacBook Air. These laptops are thinner and more lightweight than the pros, and what they lack in power they make up for in size and portability. MacBook Pros were designed to be more powerful, so really aimed at professionals with complex workloads who also need portability.
Performance
If they are known for one thing, Apple computers are universally recognised as being amazingly well-built machines and the parts inside operate to optimum efficiency. The Apple OS is very user friendly, so most people are able to transition easily, even if they have never used a Mac before.
