What is a Refurbished Laptop?

A refurbished laptop is a pre-owned device that's been restored to a like-new condition by either its original manufacturer or a third-party refurbisher, like T1A and Circular Computing, then resold at a discounted price. Refurbished laptops are often graded on their quality - grade 'A', 'B', 'C', and so on - and come with warranties, too.

Where Do Refurbished Laptops Come From?

It's more than likely that a refurbished laptop started out in an office environment. Every few years, businesses tend to buy new laptops to keep up with the latest hardware, software, and security advancements. Rather than just throwing out their old laptops, however, businesses will sell them onto refurbishers, recouping some of a laptop's cost at the end of its lifecycle.

This is why you'll find that most refurbished laptops are business-oriented models - think Lenovo ThinkPads, HP EliteBooks, and Dell Latitudes - as opposed to, say, gaming laptops. Sitting in clean, air-conditioned offices all day long, with Microsoft Office often being their most demanding workload, ex-business laptops make for great refurbished laptops as they'll have experienced very little wear and tear.

Why Should I Buy a Refurbished Laptop?

If you don't need the latest-and-greatest CPUs and GPUs, then buying a refurbished laptop is a great way to save some cash while also helping to minimise e-waste. A refurbished laptop won't be the newest, flashiest, or most powerful model of laptop around, but for many that's perfectly fine. Web browsing, video streaming, and work processing - what most people use a laptop for - isn't that demanding on hardware. For these day-to-day tasks, a refurbished laptop with a processor that's a few years old will more than likely suffice. And if you buy a refurbished laptop, you save a device that'd otherwise be destined for the landfill.

Refurbished laptops are an especially great choice for students as its lets them buy a sturdy, business-class laptop for not a whole lot of money. They're also an excellent choice for anyone looking for a great family laptop on a discount. What's the Difference Between Ex-Display, Open-Box, and Refurbished Laptops?

While browsing Ebuyer for refurbished laptops, you may also come across ex-display and open-box products. There aren't quite the same as the refurbished laptops you'll find on this page. Let us explain.

As the name implies, an open-box laptop is one which has had its packaging opened. A customer might've bought a laptop, opened it, but then decided to return it without ever even powering the laptop up. Even if the laptop itself is in pristine condition without a scratch on it, it'll be relisted on our site as open-box with a small discount accordingly.

An ex-display laptop, on the other hand, is one which we've used for internal purposes. For example, sometimes we'll take a laptop out of stock to feature it in one of our videos for social media, after which it goes back into stock and listed as ex-display.

Ex-display and open-box laptops are sold with a 90-day warranty which supersedes any other reference to warranty within the product's title or description.
