What are the Three Types of Monitor?

You'll see we've split our range into three types of monitor: everyday, business, and gaming.

Best Monitors for Daily Use

Everyday monitors are perfect for those who simply need an affordable, no-frills computer screen for day-to-day tasks. Think typing up the odd document and casually scrolling social media. An everyday monitor may not have the highest colour accuracy or fastest response time but it'll be more than adequate for the average user, all while costing very little. You can buy an everyday monitor for under £100 quite easily here at Ebuyer.

Best Monitors for Office Work

Given that they're intended for office use, most business monitors aren't the fastest or most accurate either. However, business monitors do tend to feature more adjustability for ergonomic comfort during those long work days. The stands of everyday monitors typically have little to no adjustability, whereas many business monitors feature height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjust. What's more, connectivity is of higher importance on business monitors. Business monitors may, for example, include a USB-C port with power delivery so that you can quickly dock and undock your work laptop.

Best Monitors for Designers and Editors

That said, you'll also find a number of professional design monitors listed under business monitors. These displays often come calibrated from the factory for fantastic out-of-the-box colour accuracy, perfect for designers and creatives.

Best Monitors for Gaming

For the smoothest, most responsive gameplay, there's gaming monitors. The best gaming monitors boast far higher refresh rates and lower response times than the average PC screen. Refresh rate describes how many times a second a monitor is updated with a new image, while response time describes how long it takes for pixels to transition from one colour to another. So, when combined, these will help to translate your mouse movements and keyboard inputs to the screen as soon as possible, with minimal blurring and smearing to boot. Do note that a gaming monitor is nothing without a gaming PC which can render these images, or 'frames', in resource-intensive titles as fast as the display can refresh.

Which Monitor Should I Buy?

Scroll down to the spec-sheet of any computer monitor and it's easy to be overwhelmed by all the technical jargon. Rather than getting lost in the weeds of grey-to-grey response times and adaptive sync technologies, let's focus on the most important factors when buying a monitor: size and resolution.

The size of a PC monitor is measured on the diagonal from corner to corner. 24-inches is a pretty standard size for desktop use, though 27-inches is our most popular category of monitor. If you're looking for something more immersive when gaming and watching movies, we stock plenty of 32-inch monitors and 34-inch-and-larger ultrawides as well.

Bigger isn't necessarily better, mind you. As you sit so close to a monitor compared to a TV, it's much easier to notice the pixels which make up the display, known as its resolution. You don't want too small of a resolution blown up to too large of a size, otherwise things will appear blurry. We recommend 1080p for 24-inch monitors, 1440p for 27-inch monitors, and 4K for 32-inch monitors.

Multi-Monitor Setup for Increased Productivity

If you're in need of more screen real estate for multi-tasking, consider running a multi-monitor setup. How many displays a computer can handle simultaneously varies from model to model. Some laptops only support one external display at a time, while some desktops with dedicated graphics cards can drive up to four displays without issue. So, take a look at your computer's spec-sheet before buying.

And, of course, be sure to check you've got enough room on your desk for more than one monitor. You can lessen the amount of room taken up by multiple monitors by installing them all on a single monitor arm.
