Essential back-up
Uninterruptible power supplies are essential for the reliable operation of servers, as well as computers in applications like data centres, hospitals and other locations where even a momentary loss of power can cause plenty of damage.
How UPS works
The UPS takes its power from the mains supply which effectively charges its battery. When the power is cut the UPS switches to battery mode to feed power to the connected devices. The UPS can only feed power for a limited time but provides back-up until either the original power source is restored or a new source plugged in.
