Tower servers at Ebuyer

Typically, a tower server will have a large amount of internal storage and a powerful processor to cope with all the data-driven demands of a successful small to medium-sized business. With expandability built-in, from extra storage bays to DIMM slots, the capabilities of a tower server can be expanded as the business grows too. Add extra hard drives and server-grade memory and take advantage of the extra USB, I/O and NIC ports a tower server affords, to improve the performance and efficiency of a network.

Pros & Cons of a Tower Server

The internal hardware of a tower server can be as powerful as a rack-mounted server. The primary advantage of a tower server is their size and ease of deployment. They are designed to be used in an upright orientation on top of or underneath a desk like any other ordinary desktop PC. You do not need to invest in a rack cabinet and clear enough space to set it up properly, or concern yourself with rack rails, unit measurements and more.

This makes a tower server a much less intimidating option than a towering rack-mounted server. They are perfectly accessible for small to medium-sized business as they hardly require any pre-requisite knowledge. A tower server is a free-standing unit which can comfortably sit alongside your current desktops PCs and workstations.

Rack-mounted Servers

Rack-mounted servers are designated by their overall thickness. For optimal space-saving when stacked up on one another in a rack cabinet, they are wider than they are tall. However, this means they can only scarcely squeeze in the tiniest fans which have to spin at a ear-deafening revolutions-per-minute (RPM) to desperately displace all the hot air that is produced as a by-product of the internal components of the server. When you have a rack cabinet filled to the brim with servers, ear protection is advised. Most server cabinets are locked away in their own sound-proofed room accordingly, but not all small to medium-sized business can dedicate an entire room just for their server.

Conversely, the conventional form factor of a tower server means it can use standard-size case fans for quieter operation. A tower server is densely packed with computer components and will by no means be whisper-quiet, but it is conceivable and commonplace to slot one alongside your existing desk set-up.

Affordable racks

You cannot stack a tower server quite like a rack can. The key takeaway is that tower server are exceptional solution for the job there are tasked to perform. A tower server is efficient, its capacities can be further enhanced and expanded as the network grows and its easy to set-up, maintain and cool with a familiar, user-friendly form factor. Most importantly, tower servers are an affordable and cost-effective for business of all sizes and goals. As tower servers are so affordable and easy to configure compared to competing alternatives, adding extra tower servers to a network is straightforward. Although singly they are relatively compact, when more than three or four are used in combination, they can become cumbersome. When multiple tower servers are used in this configuration, it may be beneficial to transition the network to a rack-mounted server.

Leading brands of Tower Servers

If you are looking for a high-performance tower server, the HPE ProLiant line-up of tower servers have set a lofty benchmark to beat for features, quality and reliability. For networks small or large, from entry-level servers for the some all the way up to high-spec units for business, HPE produce a reliable tower server for all use cases. But, of course, HPE are not alone at the top in producing high-quality tower servers. Here at Ebuyer, we also have tower servers from the biggest names in network computing, including Dell, Fujitsu and ASUS.

What is a microserver

As the name suggest, a micro-sever is a small form factor unit. Typically, they have less processing power than a high-spec, enterprise-grade rack server, but they are the perfect fit for small to medium-sized business that do not need unnecessary amounts of power. Consequently, micro-servers are more affordable, take up far less space and you can easily pick up another if more power is required. HPE ProLiant micro-servers are high-spec and available in small form factors to seamlessly adapt to any small-sized office or work-from-home environment.
