What are smart smoke detectors?
A smart smoke detector is the one piece of safety tech you must have in your home if at all possible. Smart smoke detectors and traditional smoke alarms both use the same type of sensors (ionized or photoelectric sensors), but that is where the similarities end, as smart smoke detectors have really advanced technologically. Smart smoke detectors include self-testing features to keep an eye on the power of the battery and the sensor function. If there is a problem, then you will receive a notification direct to your mobile. Most smart smoke detectors have a dual purpose, in that they also detect carbon monoxide. Increased amounts of light or heat can be detected much more quickly if your smart smoke detector integrates with your smart home system.
How do smart smoke detectors work?
If you think of your smart smoke detector as a Wi-Fi smoke detector, it will be much easier to understand. If the alarm goes off, the smart smoke detectors will use the Wi-Fi to connect toy our smart home hub (if you possess one) and you will receive a notification through an app on your smartphone. For example, if you accidentally burned your meal in the oven and trigger what is really a false alarm, you can use the app on your mobile to turn off the alarm!
Extra safety
the good thing about having multiple smart smoke alarms is that if you sync them all up, then they will all go off if a single one is triggered. And, by checking the notification via your mobile, you will be informed of which alarm was actually triggered. If you are not at home and receive a notification, you can take the appropriate action and potentially avoid serious damage to your home or business.
What is a carbon monoxide detector?
A carbon monoxide detector consists of sensors which activate an alarm when it detects a dangerous amount of CO. This is the quickest way to prevent poisoning caused by overexposure to carbon monoxide. This is a life-saving device. The alarm of the CO detector is triggered so quickly that people are warned of dangerous levels of CO before they have developed any symptoms, which is vitally important as the effects of drowsiness can quickly overcome people. When the alarm goes off, it can only be switched off in an area where there is no carbon monoxide.
