SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) is the standard interface used in desktop computers to connect optical drives and hard disk drives to the computer. There are different versions of SATA l, ll and lll. As you would expect SATA lll is the latest and fastest technology. So, for hard drives in desktop computers, 3.5" is the usual size and SATA lll is the recommended format.
